Doesn’t it make you NUTS when you’re trying to get the last valuable drops of your favorite (and super expensive) lotion or potion out of the container but it just won’t budge?  I feel like the way packaging is designed these days it is meant to frustrate the consumer and make us wasteful, because there always seems to be at least 4 or 5 days worth of product trapped in the bottle that you just can’t reach.

Well now, thanks to Beauty Spoon you can get every last drop out of your bottle.

The patent-pending Beauty Spoon® is designed with an ergonomic handle and
flexible stem making it easy to retrieve every ounce of liquid and cream located
at the bottom of your product bottles and containers.  The Beauty Spoon® also comes equipped with a contoured spoon for retaining and scooping out as much liquid as possible.  When finished, simply wash the Beauty Spoon® with soap and water and start bragging to your friends about all the money you saved! It’s the essential beauty tool that maximizes the use of all your beauty products!

I was given a bottle of La Mer Concentrate that clocks in at a whopping $375 for 1.7 oz (yes, you read that right…) and thanks to Beauty Spoon, I have extended the life of the Concentrate by at least a week, maybe more, because this handy tool always seems to find just a tiny bit more product tucked in the deep recesses of the bottle!  If you are frustrated by tossing bottles and jars that still have days worth of beauty in them, I highly recommend the Beauty Spoon.

Beauty Spoons cost $9.99 for a set of two, and are available for purchase on line at BeautySpoon.com

15 Minute Valentine’s Day Makeup

January 27th, 2012 by Denise Shively

If you’re pressed for time on Valentine’s Day, this quick 15 minute guide to getting gorgeous will help you save time and still have you looking pretty for that special someone – or for just a night out with the girls!

1. Prime

Start with a clean, moisturized face, and use a foundation primer to help even out your skin tone and keep your makeup flawless. I like e.l.f. Studio Mineral Infused Face Primer ($6, eyeslipsface.com,) but feel free to use your favorite primer for this step.

2. Foundation/Concealer

For light coverage, a tinted moisturizer is best, followed by spot treating problem areas with a bit of concealer. However, if you need full coverage, choose a lightweight foundation like Laura Mercier Creme Smooth Foundation ($50, Sephora) for buildable coverage that lasts. Use a foundation brush or a makeup sponge for a smooth finish.

3. Blush

Impart skin with a rosy glow by dusting CoverGirl TruBlend Blush Naturally Luminous Powder in Pure Romance 425 ($7.29, drugstore.com) over cheeks.

4. Eyes

Because you’re in a hurry, choose one eyeshadow to sweep over lids and in the crease. For a standout look, choose a shimmery neutral like taupe, sand, bronze or something in between. Make sure to line the upper and lower lash line with black eyeliner, such as Prestige Waterproof Eyeliner Pencil ($5.25, drugstores) and coat lashes with one to two coats of a volumizing and lengthening mascara.

5. Lips

For lip color that lasts all night, choose a lip stain that you can simply sweep on and forget about. One to try: NYC Smooch Proof 16 Hour Lipstain, ($4-6, drugstores.) If you prefer a glossy finish rather than a matte look, simply apply the stain and then coat lips in your favorite clear gloss for a shiny, sexy finish.

There you have it! Your 15 minute guide to easy Valentine’s Day makeup that will look just as gorgeous as if you spent hours pulling your look together. Do you have any favorite time-saving tips for getting gorgeous in a flash? Share them with me in the comments.

With five inexpensive products, you can get this gorgeous “Paris Pretty” look created by P&G Beauty Global Creative Design Director Pat McGrath. The unexpected pop of color is a great way to liven skin up this winter, and will easily transition into your go-to look for spring as well.

Face

1. Start with a clean, dry face and apply just a small amount of CoverGirl’s TruBlend Liquid Makeup Foundation ($7-8.) I recommend using a foundation brush, but you can also use a sponge or your fingers depending upon what you’re comfortable with.

2. Set foundation with a light dusting of CoverGirl Trublend Pressed Powder ($7.79.)

3. To add a pop of color and give your cheekbones a sculpted look, apply CoverGirl & Olay Simply Ageless Sculpting Blush in Lush Berry ($8.39.)

Eyes

1. Using CoverGirl Intense ShadowBlast Eyeshadow in Forever Pink, ($7.99) apply the shadow to the center of your eyelid and blend thoroughly, especially as you approach the brow bone.

2. Finish your eyes with one coat of CoverGirl LashBlast 24 Hour Mascara in Black on roots of upper and lower lashes, but add a coat of the LashBlast Mascara in Black Brown to the tips of your lashes. ($7.99.)

Lips

Using new CoverGirl Blast Flipstick Lipstick in Perky, apply the creamy red shade to lips and blend well. Then, apply the shimmery shade on the other end to just the center of your lips. ($6.39.)

Voila! You have the perfect “Paris Pretty” look in a matter of minutes, using affordable CoverGirl cosmetics that are all available via drugstore.com. If you try this look, be sure to let us know in the comments!

Lancome Roseraie Des Delices Spring 2012 Beauty Collection

January 20th, 2012 by Denise Shively

There are a lot of new beauty collections for spring 2012, but the Lancome Spring 2012 Color Collection Roseraie Des Delices is easily one of my favorites for the season. Below, I’ve highlighted the new products for the spring line, so check them out and make room in your beauty bag for these gorgeous new eyeshadows, lip colors and more.

Eyes

  • Limited Edition Spring 2012 Collection Eye Palette Eye Brightening All-In-One 5-Shadow & Liner (2 new palettes)

Both palettes in this limited edition spring 2012 collection are stunning, and include “Rose Romance,” a palette of soft pinks, peach and burgundy shadows, and “Vert Tendresse,” a flattering mix of mint and forest greens. Each shadow can be worn alone or combined for the perfect eye look and all of the shadows are designed to wear for up to 8 hours.

($49/each)

  • Le Stylo Waterproof Eyeliner (two new shades)

Lancome’s Le Stylo Waterproof Eyeliner includes two new shades that are perfect for spring: “Blanc,” a pure white designed to brighten eyes, and “Green Petal,” a frosty, pastel mint green for a bright pop of color.

($25.50/each)

Face

  • La Roseraie Illuminating Smooth Powder

This gorgeous rosy pink and pastel shimmer color compact is a great all-in-one compact for cheeks and face, and will impart a subtle shimmer and rosy glow to brighten even the dullest complexions.

($42)

Lips

  • L’Absolu Rouge Nu (two shades: Sweet Marmalade and Rose Petal)
  • Le French Touch Absolu Nu (Cotton Candy)
  • Color Fever Gloss (three shades: Green Petal, Tangerine Petal and Rose Petal)

By far my favorite offerings from Lancome’s 2012 makeup collection are the lip colors. With two new lipsticks to choose from and a new lip gloss, you can find something for everyone. All of the shades are perfect for spring, but the lip gloss is definitely my favorite  with their sheer pastel shades and their moisturizing, never sticky, application.

($26.50-35/each)

Which products are your favorite from the spring collection?

Meaningful Beauty Delivers Meaningful Changes

Cindy Crawford for Meaningful Beauty

As the seasons change, so does our need for adapting our skin care regimen.  Unless you live on the equator where the temperature and climate is pretty consistent, chances are you have noticed that there are seasons when your skin is drier or oilier, more vibrant or less youthful.  In the winter months it’s easy to think “Oh, I’ll just add more moisturizer…” but sometimes a complete change up to your skin care products can be just what the dermatologist ordered.

Meaningful Beauty, Cindy Crawford’s skin care system in partnership with Dr. Jean-Louis Sebaugh, is a great place to start if you are thinking about changing products or systems.  A 7-step system focusing on anti-ageing, the Meaningful Beauty System gets to the root of your skin  concerns.  In clinical studies, after 6 weeks of use:

  • 85% of participants reported their skin visibly improved.
  • 91% of participants noticed an overall improvement in the healthier appearance of their skin.
  • 76% of participants noticed a decrease in skin dullness and dryness.
  • 85% of participants would recommend the product to a friend.
  • 100% of participants reported no irritation.

One of my skin concerns in winter is redness.  Meaningful Beauty’s products work deep within the skin to help smooth the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, add radiance and brighten your complexion and protect skin from environmental aggression and free radical damage.

You can learn more about the Meaningful Beauty system on their web site, where the complete system is available for purchase.  At a cost of $39.95 per month Meaningful Beauty’s price is well below many of the big name brands, and we think you will be happy with the results.
