Save The Earth, One Bambooee At A Time!

bambooeeYou can help save the earth by using less paper towels each day! Yeah, that’s pretty obvious, right? Well, you don’t just stop using paper towels, cold turkey. Just switch to Bambooee!

So, what the heck is a Bambooee you ask?

Bambooee is a reusable bamboo towel that replaces generic paper towels that helps reduce the 3,000 tons of paper towel waste people generate each day! They are thicker and more absorbent then even the “luxury” paper towels and Bambooee can be washed and reused over 100 times without losing integrity. Just one roll of Bambooee is equivalent to 286 standard paper towel rolls.

Just clean up your usual messes all day long and at the end of the day, toss it into the washing machine to be ready for the next mess in no time.

Induldge In These Delicious New Bath Soaks from EveryOne

everyone bath soak

Taking time to actually take a bath might be more important than you think…

Let’s talk about epsom salts. They are commonly found in most of those fancy “bath salts” that you find in your local T.J. Maxx or that you get as gift and never get around to actually using. Come to find out, you should actually crack open that far and get ready to soak.

Not only is a bath relaxing after a long, hard day but as it turns out, it can be very beneficial to your health too. First off, did you know that “Epsom Salts” are actually magnesium-sulfate? Why is this significant? Well, I was quite surprised at the obvious “ailments” we find to be “normal” that are actually from a magnesium deficiency. Common things like asthma, PMS, depression, hair loss, and more can be symptoms of a magnesium deficiency. (For more information about this, check out Magnesium Deficiency: Symptoms, Causes, & Treatments)

I didn’t discover my own need for magnesium till I became pregnant with my third and happened to stumble upon an article about morning sickness and how it can be caused by a magnesium deficiency! I immediately started taking epsom salt baths and using Magnesium Oil on my skin at least once a week. I also purchased Natural Vitality Natural Calm and started taking about 1/2 tsp in a bottle of water almost every day. Within a couple weeks, my morning sickness literally went away completely. I truly believe the magnesium is to blame!

Upon further research, I discovered that we need calcium in order to absorb magnesium. If you eat too much calcium, you can actually hinder your absorption of magnesium! So all these commercials pushing the “need” for calcium, completely ignore the fact that we also need magnesium in conjunction with it. Needless to say, a lot of people end up magnesium deficient and don’t even know it.

Easy solution… Take a bath!

My favorite way to soak up my daily dose of magnesium is with EveryOne Bath Soak. They have 4 delicious “flavors” – Yoga, Cycle, Sinner, and Surfer. My vice is Yoga.

everyone bath soak bottle comps

Yoga Soak features an essential oil blend of rose geranium, lavender, marjoram, orange and frankincense that makes for a very calming and relaxing experience. I love the scent and how my skin feels after I get out of the bath. The organic olive oil in this really softens and moisturizers your skin.

HOUSEWIFE TIP: Be aware that with bath soaks that contain oil, the tub will be a little slick when you’re done. I keep a bottle of dish detergent in my bathroom and just squirt a little in there, rub it around with my hands (or a sponge) really quickly and rinse with the shower head (or a cup). Takes 2 minutes and leaves your tub and shower pristine so you don’t have to put a lot of elbow grease into it later.

All four EveryOne Soaks feature a unique combination of Epsom salts, organic olive oil, and four very powerful essential oil blends. You could just soak in plain ol’ epsom salts, but why bother when you can pick one of these bath soaks to suit your specific needs?

Price: $12.99 for 30 ounces (enough for 8 full baths)

Totally Obsessed with Somatique Moisturizer

somatique products

I am totally obsessed with Somatique Moisturizer ($44)! I opened the jar, thinking I was just going to be trying yet another moisturizer and was immediately taken away to a dreamy land… Their website says nothing about this moisturizer having a fragrance, but my sensitive pregnancy-nose detects the creamy cocoa butter, coconut, raspberry and rose within. It’s just absolutely heavenly. I find myself looking forward to my facial routine JUST so I can open that jar and smell it contents.

Not only does is have an extremely appealing fragrance, it works wonderfully. I didn’t get any breakouts, like I normally do when suddenly switching to a new moisturizer. It penetrates deep into the skin and soaks in quickly so you can easily wear makeup on top, unlike some moisturizers that you need to wait at least 5 minutes before you can put on liquid foundation.

Overall, I am extremely impressed with this moisturizer and it is definitely one that I would buy over and over again.

100% Pure Natural, Vegan and Organic Pregnancy-Safe Makeup

Phew! Now that Black Friday and Cyber Monday are over, let’s get back to business!

I’m 17 weeks pregnant (just in case anyone cares!) and I’ve made a huge change in my beauty routine in the past few months. I’ve switched to all natural makeup, thanks in part to 100% Pure Cosmetic’s all natural, organic, vegan beauty products.

pure cosmetics

I recently read several articles about the horrendous and toxic ingredients in mascara. Since mascara is something I wear EVERY DAY I figured it was an important thing to make sure what I was using had helpful ingredients instead of potentially harmful ones. I was pretty addicted to my Covergirl Lashblast Mascara, I must admit, so making the switch to all natural mascara took some getting used to.

mascaraThe first thing I noticed about 100% Pure’s Fruit Pigmented Mascara was that the container is absolutely darling and it smelled WONDERFUL. I mean, I love putting this stuff on just so I can smell it. Seriously. No chemical scent, just a light, fruity-floral fragrance. I wear “Black Tea” every day now. My lashes don’t look like stunning falsies, but for everyday use this stuff is perfect. Best of all, it washes off easily without harsh makeup removers. It doesn’t dry and get flaky either. It stays on well through out the entire day and doesn’t run or give me raccoon eyes unless I go to bed with it on. But seriously, the only mascara that won’t rub off while you are sleeping is some pretty intense waterproof stuff anyway.

I also replaced my regular foundation with Fruit Pigmented Tinted Moisturizer and I’ve been using Fruit Pigmented Eye Shadow as well. I love the tinted moisturizer but for some reason eyeshadow just DOES NOT stay put on my eye lids without Urban Decay Potion Primer. Even if I powder my eyelids, don’t put on eye cream or moisturizer, no matter what I try, I just can’t get eyeshadow to stay PUT. This wonderful eyeshadow is no exception… It works wonderful and looks gorgeous as long as I put on Primer Potion first. If I don’t, it’s no where to be seen within an hour.

Here’s a picture of me wearing the tinted moisturizer, mascara, eyeshadow and Naked Lip Gloss from 100% Pure. I posted this on instagram last week.

me with makeup

Lastly, I decided I wanted to eliminate SLS and other chemicals from my hair care routine. Last time I was pregnant, I actually made my own shampoo. I just don’t have time for that now! So I switched to Yuzu and Pomelo Glossing Shampoo and Conditioner. OH. MY. GOD. It smells sooooo gooooood. Course I love anything that smells like grapefruit and I recently realized about 50% of the products in my bathroom, are grapefruit scented. I guess “Pomelo” smells just like grapefruit because I’m in love with this shampoo and conditioner. Plus it makes my hair really silky and soft. I’m hooked. I don’t think I will be switching back to my regular shampoo and conditioners after baby arrives in May.

Overall, I highly recommend 100% Pure Cosmetics if you are looking for a more natural alternative to drugstore makeup.

100% Pure provided me with the products for this review/post.
My thoughts and opinions are my own, regardless of monetary compensation.
My opinion is that 100% Pure Products are awesome.

A Girl’s Gotta Spa! Campaign to Launch Natural Bath and Body Line

My name is Shannon Smyth, founder of A Girl’s Gotta Spa!, a beauty blog that just celebrated its 8th year!

I’m SO excited to tell you about our newest venture–creating our namesake natural bath and body line!

body scrub

Just like you, I too, am tired of hearing all about the next “trendy” ingredient. Brands are launching products just based on this ingredient alone (and most of the time it is the last ingredient on the label, which means it is barely in it!)

Just like you, I too, am tired of hearing how this or that product is the next “miracle” product that will solve all your skin care woes…heck it’s even a multi-tasker and it’s going to de-frizz your hair, make your nails grow stronger AND make you feel better about life in general. How could you possibly not want it??

Just like you, I too, am tired of reading advertisements and brands boasting the amazing effects of their products, even photoshopping to try to make you believe this is JUST what you NEED.

I don’t claim to have developed a bath and body line that is so unique that it will blow you out of the water–no trendy ingredients, no miracle solution.

What I do have, is something purely honest and simple, something effective and natural. No marketing hype. No photoshop.

body butter

My product line is for women who read the labels. Women who care about not only what goes IN their bodies, but ON their bodies. Women who are looking for an effective skin care solution that aren’t persuaded by hype, but by proof.

A Girl’s Gotta Spa! Bath & Body will be a product line with ingredients that are 94-100% natural and are cruelty free.

It is purely without:

    •Synthetic Colors

Sounds great, right? But we need YOUR help! While we are in the works of creating the line, we need the funding to actually launch it. Our crowdfunding campaign ends on November 8, 2013 at midnight PST. As I write this post, we are only 8% funded. Our goal is $4600. Perks begin at a $25 donation (can you say Lavender Lip Balm? I can!) However, every donation– no matter how big or how small, MATTERS and makes a difference.

Thank you so much for your consideration! I look forward to bringing you a line that you’ll love and use for years to come!
