Madre Labs is all about quality products that help make your life better. They want to help you have a vibrant and healthy life and they have a line of unique products to help you do just that.

I had the pleasure of getting to review a few of their exceptional products including their Balancing Shampoo and Conditioner formulated for “Normal Hair”, their Moisturizing Shampoo and Conditioner for Dry/Damaged Hair, their Moisturizing Body Wash and Leave-In Conditioner as well as their Body Lotion and Hand Cream.

pH Balanced – Eco-Friendly Packaging – Made in U.S.A.
Made with Biodegradable Ingredients and Contains NO No-No’s

Shampoo & Conditioners

I used both the Balancing System and the Moisturizing System and was very happy with the results of both. I think the Balancing System worked best for my husband and 4 year old and the Moisturizing System worked best for my thick, frizzy hair. Both sets smelled great although I think I preferred the scent of the Balancing System.

Both shampoos cleansed my hair thoroughly but gently. The Balancing Conditioner gave me soft and gentle conditioning that didn’t feel waxy or weight my hair down. Worked great for my 4 year old and husband who both have thin, wavy hair that needs volume. I preferred the Moisturizing Conditioner as it made my hair silkier, shiny and less frizzy than the Balancing Moisturizer.

Knowing that both sets have exceptional ingredients, made me feel great about using them. I would highly recommend them for anyone wanting to get away from mainstream hair care and harmful ingredients, but who doesn’t want to compromise on results and quality.

Hair & Body Care

The Moisturizing Body Wash was probably my favorite product from the Madre Labs products I was sent to review. The bottle is almost empty! Everyone in my house LOVES it. This body wash is unique in that it doesn’t contain any sulfates or soap. It’s a gentle, very lightly fragranced, soap-free Body Wash that produces luxurious lather without using harsh surfactants that dry our your skin. Argan nut oil, which is high in vitamin E and rich in essential fatty acids, will help your skin feel silky smooth. In addition, the Rosemary Mint scent will make you want to stay in the shower all day. It contains a proprietary blend of superfruits (açaí, goji, pomegranate and seabuckthorn) that help protect your delicate skin from oxidative and environmental damage.

My least favorite product was the Leave-In Conditioner. Not because it’s not a great product but because the scent was just a little too much for me. It’s very strong scented and it seems to linger in the air, so if you don’t spritz and run, it’s a little heavy for the lungs to take! As far as performance is concerned, it’s not really necessary because their conditioners work great and I really didn’t feel the need for additional conditioning. It was good as a detangler for my 4 year old’s hair though.

Hand & Body Cream

They offer a nice big bottle of Hand & Body Lotion that soaks into the skin fast, leaves it soft and it’s unscented! I felt good using it on my whole family.

My husband’s favorite product is the Unscented Hand Cream. It comes in a convenient sized tube so you can take it with you and it delivers fast and adequate moisture to dry hands. An essential for winter!

WEN Fall Ginger Pumpkin Cleansing Conditioner Review

October 26th, 2011 by The Fashionable Housewife

Chaz Dean has just release a brand new WEN product, Fall Ginger Pumpkin Cleansing Conditioner.

This is a limited edition product, only available until November and will give you the same healthy, lustrous locks you’ve come to expect from WEN.

This stuff is aaaaamazing!!!!!!! I love anything pumpkin flavored and this is no exception. The spiciness of the ginger complimented but the sweetness of the pumpkin… all mixed with the same luxurious formula that makes me never want to use anything else in the shower ever again.

The Cons…

    1. I wish it didn’t wish it cost so much.

    2. I wish it came in a much bigger bottle.

WHY? Because I’m seriously addicted to this stuff. It’s amazing. And believe me, being The Fashionable Housewife, I get to try a LOT of shampoo and conditioners and all kinds of other hair products. This is the MOST sensational hair cleansing product I have ever tried. It makes my hair look great! Silky, smooth, shiny and

If it was a little more affordable and came in a bigger bottle, I would be getting this stuff in bulk and stocking up for the next few years!

RETAIL: $32.00 for 16oz

Buy it on ChazDean.com or for a limited time you can buy it on QVC.com (search for “Wen Pumpkin”) for only $25!! Get it while it’s still on sale!!!!

WEN Perfection And Your Hair Collide

Have you heard of WEN? I’m sure you’ve spotted at least ONE commercial, right? Yeah, first time I saw it advertised I thought “Yup. Too good to be true. I’m not even going to bother.”

OH THE WASTED YEARS!!!!

Kicking myself now for not trying WEN sooner… It’s hair perfection in a freaking bottle!

WEN by Chaz Dean Pomegranate Cleansing ConditionerMy first experience with WEN was testing out the Pomegranate Cleansing Conditioner. One word…. OMG. Oh wait, that’s not a real word… Then three words. OH. MY. GOOOOOODNESS.

But seriously, this stuff is amazing. I’ve tried a million “2-in-1 shampoo conditioners” and more often than not, it was just a heavily moisturizing shampoo or an unwaxy conditioner that didn’t really clean the hair and left it heavy, weighted down and greasy looking. WEN Cleansing Conditioner is totally different than ANYTHING I have ever tried before. It’s more like a 5-in-1. This one product does the same job as shampoo, conditioner, detangler, leave-in conditioners, and styling products.

It says to use a sick amount like 40+ pumps, but I really tried to ration it and only use like 5-10 pumps even though I have VERY thick mid-back length hair that is very wavy and frizzy. It doesn’t suds and smooths into hair like a thick shampoo. I mix with a little water to really work it in and then I let it sit in my hair for 5 minutes. When I rinse, I run my fingers through my hair instead of using a comb and it’s utterly amazing how quickly it takes all the tangles out. Like magic!

Once a week, I add a bit more to the ends of my hair and rinse only slightly before getting out of the shower. Then I towel dry my hair and voila! Tangle free, frizz free, soft, smooth, super shiny hair! I’ve never been so amazed by a hair product before in my life.

And it works on ALL hair types.

It’s seriously addicting though… I could go through a whole bottle in a month if I’m not careful. And I suppose that would be fine if you can afford it. Depends on how high up on your priority list perfect hair is…. If you ration it, a 16oz bottle might last you a month if you use it 4-6 times a week. (Washing your hair daily is NOT necessary with this stuff!)

I like the Pomegranate scent… it’s got this weird undertone scent that I can’t figure out what it is though… Is it mint? Is it an essential oil I can’t name? I don’t know… But the scent does not linger after you get out of the shower, which is fine by me. My hair smells clean after it dries, but not like a bushel of fruit.

There are several other “flavors” if Pomegranate is not your thing… Cucumber Aloe, Fig, Lavender, Tea Tree, Sweet Almond Mint and their latest GINGER PUMPKIN. Sign me up for that stuff!!!!!

You can purchase it on QVC.com in all the different scents and three different size containers so you can try it, see that you can’t live without it and then buy the jumbo size! LOL

QVC has over thousands of positive reviews for this stuff (99% satisfaction!) and it’s no wonder why. This stuff ROCKS! I know I probably sound like a fruitcake but honest to goodness, I have never been this impressed with a hair product before.

Be kind to your hair this summer and try something natural!

I recently got to try Tea + Protein Herbal Shampoo and Peppermint Herbal Conditioner, both of which I quickly fell in love with. If you read this blog often, you know that I get to review a LOT of products, most of which are shampoo and conditioners. I don’t post about all of them… I only post about the ones that I love. Such is the case with this fabulous and natural duo.

The shampoo has a nice amount of suds, cleanses hair gently and thoroughly, and leaves hair soft, bouncy and smelling like tea! The conditioner is absolutely amazing… Not waxy, doesn’t leave a residue, rinses out easily and leaves hair healthy and shiny. I love the peppermint scent! It’s really invigorating and leaves my hair smelling just wonderful.

You can buy both products individually or you can get the Earth Fresh Bath Set with both the shampoo and conditioner, plus the yummy citrus body gel, all for just $41.98! (Each bottles retails for around $16.99 each)

The Earth Fresh Bath Set includes:

    1 x Tea + Protein Herbal Shampoo, 8oz
    1 x Peppermint Herbal Conditioner, 8oz
    1 x Citrus + Vitamin E Body Gel, 8oz

I highly recommend you try out these products if you’re looking to mix it up a little and try something natural and herbal.

Price: $41.98

Organix Brazilian Keratin Therapy 30-Day Hair Smoothing Treatment

June 10th, 2011 by The Fashionable Housewife

I had the pleasure of being able to try out Organix Brazilian Keratin Therapy System and I was pleased with the results, so I wanted to share them with you!

I did the treatment to my hair on May 21 and it’s still looks great. It hasn’t been 30 days, but I haven’t seen the results fade in the last 3 weeks. Honestly, it didn’t make my hair stick straight, but my hair is definitely a LOT more manageable, silky, shiny, smooth and non frizzy. The results are pretty much identical to the Simply Smooth treatment I got in Feb 2010 at Cassandra Salon that cost nearly $400. The salon treatment I received did NOT last 4 months like they said it would… It lasted MAYBE a month and half… two months TOPS.

The Organix Brazilian Keratin Therapy 30-Day Smoothing Treatment is like $15, plus Brazilian Keratin Therapy Shampoo ($8), Brazilian Keratin Therapy Conditioner ($8), styling products like the Flat Iron Spray ($8) and Anti-Breakage Serum ($8) altogether will be under $50 total. Even if you don’t have a hair straightener and have to buy a Ceramic Hair Straightening Iron to get the job done, this will still cost you much less than getting a similar treatment in a salon.

I recommend getting someone else to straighten your hair for you after applying the product because it’s really tiring and time consuming to do each small piece of hair and make sure it’s totally straight. I did mine myself and it took me over an hour and my arms were exhausted when I was done!

Some reviews I read say that the product is stinky and that is true… It smells when you are straightening your hair and sealing the product onto your hair. Have a fan handy or do it outside if possible… Some people say that it smells bad every time they wash their hair but I completely disagree with that. It doesn’t smell at all! I use the shampoo and conditioner that goes with this system and my hair smells great! Kinda like… hazelnuts or something. If you are used to your hair smelling like fruit (Pantene, Herbal Essence, etc) then this set might smell a little strange to you, but personally I like it.

I have red/auburn hair and lots of it. It was pretty time consuming to apply the product to my mid-back length hair, but it was worth it. The results are great! Silky, shiny, no frizz and only very minimal waviness left. It did not change the color or tone of my hair, only the texture. I’m really happy with the results…

I took this picture right after I straightened my hair. It looks dull because the straightening product is still on my hair. You have to leave it in for at least 48 hours after applying it and straightening your hair. It’s CRUCIAL that you do not get your hair wet, moist, bent, kinked, or anything during the time. It’s sealing onto your hair during this time and it’s best to keep hair as smooth as possible during this time. Don’t pull it back, don’t tuck it behind your ears, don’t put it in a scrunchie or a clip. Just leave it alone for 2 days! It will drive you absolutely NUTS but it’s worth it…

After you wash it out for the first time, you’ll feel the results in the shower. Soft, silky, lighter, smoother and less tangled. I highly recommend using the Organix shampoo and conditioner that goes with this system for best results.

The Organix® collection is available for around $7.99 each at mass retailers, including Target, Walgreens, CVS/Pharmacy and Walmart.

What do you think of my results? Would you try this at-home system?

So y’all, we showed you which hairstyle was chosen by the readers earlier this week… but in case you weren’t around, the Gwyneth Lob (long bob) garnered the most votes! ( In case you missed the original post, check it here.)

Wanna see how Meghan did with cutting off all that hair?

We took Meghan to one of our favorite salons in the suburbs of Boston, True Salon, and she was given the undivided attention of one of their best stylists!

Not only was she getting a great do, but she had enough cut off for Locks of Love!

The finished product?

We think she looks great and I have heard reports that she looked even better the next day! When told she was showered with compliments? We weren’t surprised!

And the Winner of our giveaway? Congratulations to Miss Tina Renee! She will be receiving the Organix® Renewing Moroccan Argan Oil Collection. Thank you to everyone who participated! This was loads of fun.

Made From Earth Organic & Natural Skin Care

April 12th, 2011 by The Fashionable Housewife

Made From Earth has created an exceptional line of organic and chemical free face creams that are cruelty free, safe and surprisingly affordable.

I received a selection of Made From Earth products to test and review about a month ago. Shortly after receiving the products I went on a business trip and could only take a limited amount of toiletries and cosmetics with me, but I chose to make some of the Made on Earth products fit into my suitcase.

One of the items that made the cut was the Rooibos Tea Facial Scrub. This moisturizing face scrub was designed to release toxins and improve skin cell circulation. It worked great on my oily skin with no ill effects. It was gentle enough so I could even use it after sun exposure, but effective enough to exfoliate the dead skin that resulted from said sun exposure. I loved the light scent too. Not my favorite facial scrub in the whole world, but the most effective and reasonably priced natural facial scrub.

The other product I brought with me was the pH Equilibrant Moisturizer. The first time I used it, I thought “Oh no! I’m going to breakout from this!” but luckily, it proved me very wrong. I thought it was a little heavy and thick at first, but it actually soaked right into my skin and made it feel supple and young. Thankfully, I didn’t breakout from it either. It was fantastic after sun exposure too. It didn’t work well for me under liquid foundation though… I’ll have to try it with a couple other ones to see how it fairs, but so far, I couldn’t recommend it to wear under makeup. At least without waiting at least half an hour before applying the makeup to make sure it soaks in really well.

After I got back from my business trip I tried out the Tea + Protein Herbal Shampoo and Peppermint Herbal Conditioner. Both worked exceptionally well for being “natural”. The shampoo made effective suds and bubbles and cleansed my hair quite well. The conditioner wasn’t at all waxy but moisturizer my hair and made it soft and silky. Plus, I loved the scent of both!
