Fashionable Housewife: Kirsten Borrink

Today we’re featuring fashionable housewife, Kirsten Borrink who not only has an impeccable sense of style when it comes to comfortable shoes, but she dresses cute too! See below her review of the Born Charisma T-Strap shoes…

When facing a closet full of open-toed sandals this morning, I reached way back and pulled out my Born Charisma T-strap pumps. They’ve got a sandal-ish look to them, but serve the purpose of dressing up my feet for church in spite of my non-pedicured toes. Although the heel is a bit high for all-day wear (I’m speaking for myself, although some of you would manage just fine), I find the Born Charisma to cover all the other comfort bases: roomy toe box (doesn’t cut into bunions), nicely padded footbed, and forefoot platform provides height without the feel of a four inch heel!

Stylistically, I’m quite fond of the hand-sewn stitching, teardrop cut-outs and vintage-look t-strap of the Born Charisma.

Being that my shoe collection overshadows my meager clothing wardrobe currently during these days of financial frugality, I was thrilled to pair two pieces that were never intended to work together; my $8 sundress from ebay and the light green floral cardigan from Gap Outlet (under $15). Although I’m becoming more accustomed to mixing colors, I’m still a bit leary of how to mix patterns and not look garish. I think this works…

A Few Goody Gumdrops Interviews Hollywood.com’s Celebrity Fashion Editor Lien Ta

Our gorgeous friend Betsy from A Few Goody Gumdrops snagged an interview with Hollywood.com’s Celebrity Fashion editor Lien Ta. Betsy was kind enough to let us share the entire exclusive interview with all of you!

Check it out:

With the Oscars right around the corner, A Few Goody Gumdrops snagged an interview with Hollywood.com’s celebrity/fashion editor Lien Ta. A former US Weekly Top Cop and E! Online gossip columnist, Lien is one of the industry’s foremost authorities on fashion having also written for Glamour, InStyle, W, and Los Angeles Magazine

1.Do you expect there to be an explosion of color on the runway? If so, what color or colors do you expect to be the “color” of the evening?
Absolutely! The always-dependable black dress takes a back seat this year, and jewel tones like yellows, greens, blues, reds, purples and one pink dress will explode. Whites and creams are very popular for the Oscars, too — because it appears sophisticated and winning.

2.Who are the top three stars that always dazzle you?
In life, Cate Blanchett has worn the most daring, most memorable dresses to major red-carpet events. Charlize Theron — often in Dior — never, ever disappoints, but perhaps my all-time favorite Oscar dress was the yellow one that Michelle Williams wore the year she and then-boyfriend Heath Ledger were nominated for their roles in Brokeback Mountain. If given the opportunity to attend awards shows a little more often, Michelle would outshine all.

Of this year’s actress nominees, I imagine that the best-dressed order would look like this (beginning with my top choice): Anne Hathaway, Penelope Cruz, Angelina Jolie, Amy Adams, Taraji P Henson, Viola Davis, Kate Winslet, Marisa Tomei — and an honorable mention to Freida Pinto.

3.What male stars stand out in the crowd? Always?
Clive Owen. Because he’s quirky: Robert Downey Jr. And because he’s way, way out there: Mickey Rourke.

4.Do you think up and coming designers will dominate the runaway or the traditional tried and true?
I think the Versaces and the Diors will still be prevalent, but designers like Marchesa (a bit beyond up-and-coming) will make a splash.

5.What can we expect for hairstyles?
Hair will be up, up, up. Though I wish Amy Adams would wear hers down.

We can’t wait to hear Lien’s Red Carpet Report….the fashion statements, the jewels, the fabulous bags, beauty trends and the Red Carpet No-No’s!

Lawrence Zarian – aka “The Fashion Guy”

October 21st, 2008 by Shari Von Holten

Lawrence Zarian aka “The Fashion Guy” is the new host of TV Guide Networks hit original series THE FASHION TEAM along with Host Daphne Brogdon. The one-hour weekly series gives viewers an inside look at the world of fashion and what the stars are wearing from Red Carpet couture to on-set styles seen in Hollywood. THE FASHION TEAM offers a review of fashion hits and misses from the Red Carpet, and offers advice for viewers on how to dress just like the stars they love for less.

I had the pleasure of speaking to Lawrence Zarian, “The Fashion Guy” and received an incredible amount of insight into the world of fashion. Lawrence was pleasant, charming and down to earth. He really “gets it” and has a great understanding of the everyday woman/housewife.

When I asked Lawrence who his favorite designer was he said he could not pick just one designer. He also stated that he does not shop on Madison Avenue or Rodeo Drive but actually prefers Macy’s.

He said,

“Macy’s has something for everyone. No matter what your size, shape or budget is – you can find an affordable brand at Macy’s. That is where I spend my money.”

.

This is someone that “gets it”.

I asked “The Fashion Guy” what he considers the one MUST HAVE item. Lawrence considers the classic black suit to be part of our uniform or the black pencil skirt. The black pencil skirt tends to look better on women who are a size 10 or under. He suggested the black skirt below the knee with black opaque pantyhose and a pair of tall boots for those woman who may not like the look of the pencil skirt. For a more casual look, he said you can not go wrong with denim jeans (with lycra) and fun little shoes.

When asked if he felt that housewives are neglected by the fashion industry, Lawrence stated,

Housewives neglect themselves. They are not neglected by the fashion industry, housewives need to create 5 minutes of “me” time. Whether it’s a manicure or pedicure or just shopping. If you feel pretty then you are going to have a good day.”

Do you agree?? For me this could not be more true. A bit of makeup, a nice pair of boots and a good hair day is all I need to make my day. He also suggested adding a hip pocketbook to dress up your outfit.

Lawrence shows the hottest and coolest styles, how to wear them, and most of all where to find them. From Live with Regis and Kelly to Tyra Banks to Extra, Lawrence is making over America. Lawrence Zarian delivers style that is fresh and fun. Watch the Fashion Guy and see for yourself.

Intimate Guide Lingerie Blog – What To Wear Under There

October 15th, 2008 by The Fashionable Housewife

You may find it odd for a shopping blog to list the measurements of its founders, but The Intimate Guide Lingerie Blog makes shopping a bit more personal. Husband and wife team Jeff and Rachel LeRoy provide honest product reviews for their readers, help with fitting advice, and let everyone know about good sales — all during a casual conversation about what to wear under there.

Jeff and Rachel are a married couple in Florida who focus on lingerie with some talk of underwear, sleepwear and swimwear. They post both snapshots and media photos of intimate items available for purchase online, and provide a comparison shopping engine that shows readers which online retailers carry the same items for less. When asked how they first started writing about underwear, Jeff answers comically, “We enjoy writing. When we were looking to publish online, we wanted something we wouldn’t mind staring at all day; we decided underwear was just the ticket!”

The site also includes helpful articles that define underwear terminology, tell you how to properly measure yourself for a bra, and answers to other questions most people are afraid to ask. Create an account on intimate guide and you can add products to your own Watch List, which automatically emails you if something you’ve opted to “watch” goes on sale. Friends and family members with different figures and sizes occasionally help Rachel and Jeff test products for niche markets. “My mom is a breast cancer survivor and is an H-cup, while my cousin is a size 4 teen with a C-cup, and my friends lie at all sizes and ages in between.” Rachel explains.

Although Jeff and Rachel don’t claim to be fashion experts, they can answer questions about what type of bra to wear with a specific outfit, how to hide figure flaws and much more. “We go to Florida theme parks a lot, and I always want to take photos of each fashion faux pas we see. But we don’t want Intimate Guide to be about picking on people, we’d rather help people,” Rachel admits.

The conversational style of their web site is easy to read. When the red carpet rolls out, they can both be found live blogging the Oscars or Emmys, telling you what celebrities are wearing underneath their fashionable duds. “It’s always crazy trying to rapidly blog during the Red Carpet arrivals, but I think it’s important that people know how a lot of celebrities look great because of their undergarments, not because of surgery,” Jeff explains, “Fortunately, many celebrities are now happy to tell the cameras exactly what they’re wearing underneath. For the rest, we just guess – and maybe have just a bit of fun while doing it.”

So head on over to
