Stacy London’s Tips for Fashionable, Comfortable Feet

August 17th, 2011 by Amanda Davis

We are sooooooooooo lucky to get some awesome tips on how to keep our feet comfortable whilst not forgoing fashion from Miss Fashion Hotstuff, Stacy London! She has teamed up with Dr. Scholl’s for Her to promote healthy feet and healthy fashion forward footwear! Hoorah! We love when our feet don’t hurt!

Hey gals! As a stylist, I know that finding a balance between fashion and comfort can sometimes be tricky.  In fact, chances are that most of us ladies have experienced “Fabulitis” – A.K.A. discomfort caused by the decision to wear uncomfortable, yet fabulous, shoes. Luckily, my pals at Dr. Scholl’s For Her make it possible to help forgo Fabulitis (but still be fabulous) with awesome Footcare products designed just for us gals. Here are a few of my tips for how you can be fashionable and comfortable at the same time…it’s totally possible!

STICK WITH THE STAPLES: Every woman’s wardrobe should be built around a few staple items that are versatile, good quality and classic in style. For instance, fitted pair of jeans, little black dress, white button down shirt and a comfy pair of black pumps can all be dressed up or down and should be constants in your closet. Fabulitis Comfort tip: Slip a pair of Dr. Scholl’s® For Her High Heel Insoles into your pumps to help prevent foot aches and pains caused by high heels.

DAY TO NIGHT: Be prepared on those days when you’ll be heading straight out from work, whether it’s a dinner date or meeting up with the ladies. Choose an outfit that’s work- appropriate (like a little black dress) that you can jazz up with heels and accessories before you hit the town. The key is to choose fabrics that don’t wrinkle easily and will still look great at the end of the day. Fabulitis Comfort tip: Keep a pair of Dr. Scholl’s® For Her Fast Flats™ in your purse to make the commute easy breezy after a long day.  These foldable, rollable, and (of course) stylish flats are so compact, you can carry them with you wherever you go!

EXPRESS YOURSELF: Don’t be afraid to be bold and wear items that showcase your personality. It’s easy to add flare to a classic look by incorporating a jeweled hair piece, a colorful belt or your fave accessories. And remember to have fun with it!  Fabulitis Comfort tip: Dr. Scholl’s® For Her Sole Expressions are fun and stylish insoles that provide all-day comfort and come in the cutest patterns for any occasion.

SHOP SMART: The perfect pair of heels can take an outfit from drab to fab, but shopping for “the one” takes patience. Carve out enough time to hunt down a flattering style that you feel comfortable in, and try to shop later in the day when your feet are a little swollen so you don’t purchase a pair that’s too tight. Fabulitis Comfort tip: Dr. Scholl’s® For Her Comfort Insoles keep you comfortable all day by absorbing shock and impact on the heels…plus they’re discreet and fit in most shoe styles.

WALK THE TALK: Looking uncomfortable can totally ruin the most stylish outfit (even with the most fabulous shoes). Choose clothing and shoes that look and feel good for your body type, stand up tall and own your style with confidence.  Fabulitis Comfort tip: The balls of your feet feel the most pressure when you wear your heels, so add cushioning to the area before slipping them on. Dr. Scholl’s® For Her Ball of Foot Cushions massage your feet and prevent pain from occurring in your ball of foot.

What To Wear: Lands End Canvas Outfit Ideas

December 15th, 2010 by The Fashionable Housewife

As a Lucky Alpha Shopper, I recently got to shop Lands’ End Canvas for a “look” for less than $100. I had briefly heard of Lands End new brand “Canvas” about a month ago, but I hadn’t had a chance to check out the items. I’m glad I got to check it out because I really like what they have to offer. Everything is just my style!

Being the bargain shopper that I am, I tried to get as many items as possible for the $100 I was allotted. After browsing every single item on the website, I chose to purchase the following:

Subtotal: $117.44

Okay so I spent a little over $100, but I couldn’t help it! Once I started shopping, I couldn’t stop. I wanted to buy so much more, but my Christmas budget just didn’t allow. Maybe next month!

Here are the stock photos of the items I chose:

With those seven items I was able to create ten outfits!! All outfits are either Spring, Summer or Fall appropriate, but if you paired a couple of them with boots and sweater, they could be worn in the Winter too.

Outfit #1

The first outfit is the Long Sleeve Heritage Stretch Poplin Shirt in Black ($39.50) paired with Chino Utility Short in Walnut ($13.99). Add a Suede Skinny Belt ($19.99) and a pair of Ballet Flats ($69.50) for a fabulous summertime outfit.

Outfit #2

Start with a super soft Solid Fine Gauge Boyfriend Vneck Sweater and pair with Chino Utility Shorts in Walnut ($13.99). Add a Aged Leather Braid Belt ($39.50) and a pair of sneakers, ballet flats or tall boots.

Outfit #3 #4 and #5

I got the Light Weight Jersey Scoop Placket Henley Tank ($7.99) in Navy, Gray and Dusty Blue. I can pair any of them with Chino Utility Shorts in Walnut ($13.99) for the perfect summertime outfit with sandals or sneakers. These tanks are super soft and you’ll never want to take them off! You can even layer them a cami underneath for a layered look. Tuck your tank into your shorts and add a nice Aged Leather Belt ($39.50) for a smart look.

Outfit #6 #7 and #8

You know how I got the Light Weight Jersey Scoop Placket Henley Tank ($7.99) in Navy, Gray and Dusty Blue? Well I can pair all of those tanks with the Super Soft Chino Slouch Pants in Khaki ($22.99). These chinos are so soft and comfortable, they are like wearing sweatpants! Throw a cardigan on top of a tank and these chinos for a Spring or Fall outfit. Ballet flats for Spring and Ankle Boots for Fall.

Outfit #9

Cooler weather? Start with the Solid Fine Gauge Boyfriend Vneck Sweater ($16.99) and pair with Super Soft Chino Slouch Pants in Khaki ($22.99). You can roll the pants up and wear with ballet flats or heels in the Spring. Try ankle boots or sneakers for Fall. These are very versatile pants!

Outfit #10

The Long Sleeve Heritage Stretch Poplin Shirt ($39.50) really is a wardrobe basic you should have to go with everything. It also goes great with these Super Soft Chino Slouch Pants in Khaki ($22.99). Pair with a great Aged Leather Belt ($39.50) and maybe a pair of heels for a work-ready outfit.

Check out Lands’ End Canvas and let me know which pieces you’d buy to style a look for under $100. Tell me what you think of the items I picked!

* I received $100 gift card to spend on Lands End in exchange for doing this post and sharing my “look”.

We all know Gap is a go-to for wardrobe basics.  Now they’re debuting a premium pants line.  Great timing– pants are everywhere for Fall!

Our customers know that they can trust us to deliver perfect-fit jeans,” says Gap’s EVP of Design, Patrick Robinson. “But we recognize that our customers need options for all the occasions in their lives. Outfit Ideas: Skinny Cargo Pants

August 25th, 2010 by Lucie Amberg

If you’re only looking for a few pieces this Fall, definitely consider getting a skinny cargo pant. They began trending last Spring and are totally mainstream and on-trend for the upcoming season.

Initially, I had mixed feelings about them, probably because of my aversion to traditional cargos.  Those have always been too crunchy and utilitarian for my style.  Plus, the loose silhouette and giant pockets (although convenient) are never, never flattering– especially on people who are short like me.

But the new skinny cargos largely resolve those issues.  The sleeker silhouette makes a huge difference, and the pockets sit flatter to the body, which keeps them from adding extra bulk and width to the legs.  Overall, the effect is very sassy-girl-in-the-city as opposed to just-got-my-first-job-as-a-camp-counselor.  So I think they’re a win and a great way to make your wardrobe scream 2010!

A couple of thoughts about wearing them:

  • They work because they combine a sexy shape with no-nonsense flair.  Build on that by pairing them with body-conscious, streamlined pieces.  Just remember to keep it modern and basic.  Adding overly frilly or feminine elements will just confuse the look.
  • As always, wearing the right shoe is important.  Unless you’ve got long legs, try to add a slight heel, but avoid Carrie Bradshaw-esque stilettos.  Good bets are wedge flats, gladiator styled shoes, some ankle boots, and some pumps.
  • These can be appropriate for a casual office.  Treat them like you would skinny jeans and wear a balanced top or blouse.
  • Still hesitant?  Consider colors like gray or black rather than the traditional khaki and army green.

Some quick thoughts about how to wear a specific pair of skinny cargos two different ways.

Jaime’s No-Shop February: Week Two

February 17th, 2010 by Jaime Palmucci

Wow… let’s just say that week two did NOT go as smoothly as week one. There was some good and some bad news, and I’ll share both with you.

Let’s start with the good: I really didn’t fall into any big amounts of temptation. I bought the boy a pair of jeans (yes, another… he’s destroyed about $450 retail worth of denim recently, and I scored a great deal on some Loomstate jeans for him) for Valentine’s Day, but that’s pretty much it. I was a good girl.

Bad news? Well, I haven’t been a good girl for about a year now, and it’s starting to catch up with me. Namely, my student loans. I’m taking 100% of the blame for this one, but man… this bites. I don’t want to give you too many of my financial details (I love you guys, but there are some things a girl’s got to keep private!), but let’s just say there’s more money going out than there is coming in.

Oh, and I have to find $1,000 by the 26th. No big deal.

But, as for the whole “no-shopping” part, it just got a WHOLE lot easier, since I have no money to spend anyways.

I would like a little advice for those of you who have been here (or, some form of here… I’m not sure everyone in the world is like $40k in debt, and I hope, for their sakes, that’s not the case): how did you stay sane? I know I have to totally change my lifestyle, but do you have any tips or tricks that helped you stay motivated? I’ve been listening to Dave Ramsey a lot, and leaving little notes for myself (yeah, like I could forget how much debt I’m in!), but I’d love a little advice from an outsider.

Stay tuned for next week, where I hopefully don’t find any bonus debt!

Winter Must-Have: Bootights – Tights To Wear With Boots!

January 20th, 2010 by The Fashionable Housewife

Introducing Bootights!

Tights with the comfort and cushioning of attached mid-calf socks
that are designed exclusively to wear with boots!

THE PROBLEM:
Tights are often awkward and uncomfortable when worn with boots causing snagging, slipping, blistering, and cold feet, forcing women to wear socks over their tights. Most of my boots are also slightly big for me so wearing them with tights alone is very uncomfortable. Up until now, I’ve always worn a pair of socks over my tights when wearing them with boots.

THE ANSWER:
Bootights – The first product to combine a tight and sock all in one.

Okay so seriously, why didn’t someone think of this before now?

With a unique interlocking weaving system that offers seamless bonding, these premium quality tights are fabricated with 85% Nylon and 15% Lycra. COOLMAX moisture/thermal yarn sock provides moisture-wicking and odor reduction. Plus, the woven technology offers support for the foot and ankle with a cushioned foot bed, making your favorite boots even more comfortable.

The contoured fit of the sock accommodates any boot style. I’ve worn them with my black Born Tatiana Full-Grain Leather boots, my gorgeous Born Nenna Boots and my new favorite: Born Peri cuffed boots. (Yeah, I’ll admit it. I’m a huge Born fan!)

I was especially pleased with the non-binding waist band with tummy control “every course” weave. I hate how most tights dig into your middle and push all the belly blub below making you look pregnant, even if you aren’t!

Bootights have cleverly thought ahead and designed these with different sock heights so you can wear them with more than your favorite tall boots. The ankle length option is perfect for booties and ankle boots while the midcalf option is great for mid-height boots like Ugg Boots and all your tall boots.

I received a pair in charcoal which is the most versatile for my personal winter wardrobe. I’d love to get a pair in chocolate to use with my Fall wardrobe as well.

They are also available in a mid-calf version with their signature stitched floral pattern.

Bootights are now available for purchase at Dillards for only $21! They are selling out fast though, so be sure to grab a pair as soon as you can.

Get them on Dillards.com

I think that Bootights are an amazing invention and definitely a winter-must-have for all boot-wearing fashionistas. Well worth the money, comfortable, high-quality, and the solution for a common problem during the winter months. Definitely a fashionable housewife best buy!
