Fingerless Gloves for Frosty Mornings

Late fall can be a tricky time to get dressed, what with snow showers before Halloween in some parts, followed by balmy sunny days with temps in the 60s.  When I drove my kids to school today, it was 35 degrees with ice on the windhshield…now it’s in the upper 50s, and with the sun shining down it feels almost warm.  Fingerless gloves can be a great wardrobe accessory this time of year, giving you that extra layer of warmth without the full-on protection that a mitten offers.   As an added benefit, you can even text and use your smart phone while keeping your hands toasty warm!

Here is a selection of some of my favorite fingerless gloves:

Cashmere fingerless gloves from Garnet Hill, $38.00

I love the added length of these cashmere beauties from Garnet Hill.  The mid arm length gives you some extra styling options, and if you add some chunky wrap bracelets on the outside of the glove, you can make a great (and warm!) fashion statement.

If you want something with a bit more heft to it, these sherpa fingerless gloves from Free People look like they will go the full winter distance.

At a more reasonable price point, check out the similar style from Steve Madden:

Steve Madden Aviator Shearling Gloves, $28.00 at Zappos.com

And for those really nippy days when you just want to stay in bed but can’t, this convertible fingerless glove from Michael Kors can make you fell tucked in when you need to!

5 Fall Dresses You’ll Love

This season, dresses have become a fall wardrobe staple, and they are infinitely more wearable, comfortable and chic than ever before. Here are five fall dresses you’ll fall in love with!

The Little Black Dress

Every woman needs a little black dress in her closet, and this simple sheath is figure flattering and visually slimming because of the black inset at the waist. Because it’s such a simple dress, you can jazz it up any way you like with sparkly earrings, a killer pair of heels and a cocktail ring that makes a statement. (Also available in 3 additional colors.)

($19.99, Chadwicks.com)

The Retro Dress

Sweet as can be yet oh-so-wearable, this retro style strawberry print dress is perfect to jazz up a dreary season. Satin buttons march up the front of this fanciful frock, while the flattering princess seaming in the bust, girlie bow adornments and a sash complete the look. Don a pair of patent heels and playful earrings and you’ll turn heads wherever you go.

($89.99, ModCloth)

The Wrap Dress

There is no silhouette more flattering to every woman than the wrap dress, and this gorgeous one from Dillard’s features a rich jewel-tone olive color that’s perfect for fall. The silky jersey fabric gently skims your body for an all-over slimming effect, too! Worn alone or with a cardigan, a killer pair of heels and a statement necklace, this dress will take you from work to weekend in a flash.

($98, Dillards)

The Lace Dress

I mentioned in an earlier post how lace is super trendy for fall; what better way to rock a trend than with this gorgeous red lace dress? The simple sheath silhouette is super figure flattering, and the dress is fully lined to avoid any wardrobe malfunctions. Worn day or night, simply don a pair of stiletto heels and you’re ready for wherever the day takes you!

($168, French Connection)

The Two Tone Dress

Color blocking is hot for fall, and I love the simple combination of black and white on this two-tone dress. The round neckline, stretchy knit material and body skimming silhouette combine to create the perfect “every day dress” you turn to when you have nothing else to wear. Jazz it up with a few simple accessories and a pair of platform pumps for the perfect look.

($19.80, Forever21)

Leather Shorts: A Fashion Do or Don’t?

Leather shorts have been showing up on runways and fashion pages for over a season now, and for some reason I am obsessed with them.  The problem is, I have passed that certain age when comfortably wearing leather shorts is OK, to lingering in a place where wearing leather shorts elicits a response akin to “…what are you THINKING?”  But I can’t seem to shake my fashion curiosity, and every time a cute pair pops up in a magazine spread or on my computer screen, I try to convince myself that they are a worthwhile investment that I could actually pull off.   This pair is currently being featured on the Shopbop.com Lookbook:

See by Chloe leather fringe shorts $735 at Shopbop.com

Doesn’t the model look adorable in these!  Granted, $735 is kind of steep for a limited use piece, but they are gorgeous, nonetheless.

Another pair I love are these vegan leather shorts from Free People.

Vegan Leather Shorts $98 at Free People

Much more reasonably priced, and made of a synthetic material that feels like real leather but is animal friendly, these shorts could become a wardrobe staple  if done right.  I confess I have tried them on in the store but the 2″ rise scares me away.

A more happy medium are these beauties from the Olsen line Elizabeth & James:

I love the longer rise and the cuff detail, although the pleating at the waist can often add unwanted bulk – something I don’t want to think about while sporting confidence dubious leather shorts!

If you decide to go the way of the short, tights and mid calf high boots can help transition this traditionally summer staple into the cooler months of fall.  Just try to keep your colors in the same family so you don’t look chopped into sections.  Add a texture rich sweater or cropped jacket and you’re all set to make a hip statement.

Timberland Earthkeepers Rudston Boots Review

My favorite thing about Fall is getting to wear boots! I have so many beautiful pairs of boots in my closet but unfortunately I found that my feet got bigger after having my second child! So now I can’t wear most of my boots…. :-(

Lucky for me though, I got a new pair of knee length boots to review! The Timberland Earthkeepers™ Rudston Waterproof Pull-On Boots are the perfect go-to boots for Fall. They are made from premium full-grain waterproof leather and suede upper for rugged durability and feature a easy pull-on boot style with pull tabs.

These boots can easily go with jeans, pants, leggings, knee socks, bare legs, etc. Whatever if in your Fall wardrobe, these boots will look great with! I got mine in Golden Beige which I think will look great with just about everything.

Earthkeepers™ products represent Timberland’s environmental values in action which you have to appreciate. The printed 100% recycled PET mesh lining with a cute leaf print; the lining is made from recycled plastic bottles, surprisingly comfortable, breathable and environmentally conscious. ALSO, the rubber lug outsole is made of 15% recycled rubber that has great traction. What’s not to love?!

My only issue with the boots has been that the calf circumference is only 14 inches. These boots look GREAT on my mom who has super skinny little legs but on my athletic *ahem* calves, they don’t look as good. In fact, if you have bigger calves, these boots probably won’t work for you. My mom can easily wear thick jeans and tuck them into these boots and they look great. If I wear them with tights, the top of the boot is snug against my calf and it’s really not an attractive look on me…

They look awesome on my mom though…

5 Hot Handbags for Fall

I try to switch my bag up every season, but I normally end up doing it more frequently – I have somewhat of a handbag obsession! If you’re looking for a new bag (or two, or three…) for fall, check out my top 5 handbag picks this season.

1. Wild Prints

While definitely not for the faint of heart, handbags with animal prints, geometric shapes, loud colors and funky designs are a huge hit for fall. This particular hobo bag, available in zebra or leopard print, is roomy enough to hold all of your essentials and then some. Plus, the attached coin purse makes it easy to find exact change without having to dig through the bottom of your bag !

($38.24, eBags.com)

2. Fringe

Whether on a clutch or a shoulder bag, fringe seems to be one of the hottest handbag trends for fall. This sturdy bag from Etienne Aigner takes inspiration from retro 1970′s style, and is made from glazed leather with suede trim. Brass metal hardware completes the look. Plus, five interior pockets means this bag has plenty of room to neatly organize everything you need.

($77.99, Overstock.com)

3. Snakeskin

This gorgeous wallet from Charlotte Russe has an all-over pattern of (faux) snakeskin, and because it’s oversized it would work great as a clutch when you just need to carry around your i.d., credit cards, change and a lipstick. If you’ve always wanted a snakeskin bag but were too afraid to take the plunge, this wallet adds just enough oomph to your ensemble without going overboard. Plus, you can’t beat the price!

($9.45, Charlotte Russe)

4. Bucket Bags

Bucket bags are very popular this season, and even the simplest design is oh-so-stylish. Take this bag from J. Crew, for instance. The gorgeous pebbled leather, must-have detachable strap and gold metal detailing make this bag absolutely irresistible. Don’t be surprised if it becomes your go-to bag this season! Available in true black, henna (a mustard-y yellow) and warm burgundy.

($158, JCrew)

5. Edgy

For those who like to walk a little on the wilder side of life, this edgy handbag is the perfect accessory this season. A multitude of studs, chunky chain strap and fierce styling all combine on this cross-body bag to for the perfect edgy accessory for fall. Plus, an interior zip pocket means you can keep the items you’ll need on a moment’s notice safe and secure.
