Toffuti Flowers Exotic Dairy Free Popsicles

September 28th, 2011 by The Fashionable Housewife

Looking for a vegan-friendly dairy free desert? I’m afraid you’ll have to keep looking. I bought these at Shaw’s yesterday and decided to try one out tonight. Sad to say, they are NOT what I expected…

Chocolate Covered Flowers

A refreshing combination of edible flower nectars and Tofutti frozen dessert dipped in a deep rich chocolate.

Okay I have to give it to them. The chocolate was good. Really good. If they could loan their chocolate coating recipe to Skinny Cow, then we’d have a perfect popsicle…

The rest of this popsicle was…. pretty dang weird to say the least. The flowers are just too much for me… They taste more like spices… think Saffron, Turmeric, Ginger….. or like lavender hand soap….

If you’re wondering what these taste like….. imagine if you ate Thai food, strawberries and really good chocolate, threw up and then froze it into a popsicle. That’s it.

I’m really bummed there are 12 in a case because I don’t know what to do with the other 11 still in my freezer….. Even my 4 year old didn’t like them…

They are just really, really weird….. Not my kind of popsicle at ALL!!!

I read other reviews online that were less than positive too, except they were sent their box of popsicles free to review. I however bought mine, on my own, in Shaw’s and they were just so exceptionally weird, I decided I had to share the news…. Wish I had read the reviews first……………

If you’ve tried them, PLEASE leave a comment and let me know what you think!!!

Food for Thought…

We all know fast food is bad for us, and bad for our children, but if you want a harsh dose of reality as to how bad fast food really is, take a look at the “Happy Meal Art Project” by NYC artist Sally Davies.  She took a Happy Meal burger and fries, put it on her living room table, and  decided to “watch what happens.” She photographed the  meal every day, and 145 days into the project (with no end in site), the results are remarkable in the fact that they’re really unremarkable.  The burger and fries look exactly the same on day 1 as on day 145.   Yuck.  Would you really want to feed your family food that has so may artificial ingredients it NEVER decomposes?

Don’t Purchase This: rsvp Melbourne Boots

February 8th, 2010 by Guest Blogger

As the snowy season approached, I figured it was time to buy another pair of fashionable, yet fairly priced boots. A friend of mine directed me to 6pm.com where I found a nice looking pair of rsvp Melbourne boots in black. I was so excited because I got them in the middle of September for a great price! I wore them around to work and school very satisfied with my purchase and the price I got them for, well lets just say I THOUGHT I was satisfied.

rsvp - Melbourne 10 (Black) - FootwearA few weeks after purchasing them, both of the heels on the boots BROKE APART on the inside! Then about a month and a half later, the sole of one of the boots BEGAN DETACHING itself from the rest of the shoe! These shoes fell apart so quickly, leaving them completely susceptible to water damage. I accidentally stepped into a puddle while crossing the street and my shoes AND feet got soaked!!! I could feel the water sloshing around inside the boots and my socks and feet were soaked for the rest of the day. At this point I am BETTER OFF BARE-FOOT!

I am so incredibly disappointed with these boots. I have had them for only 3 months and they look like I have had them for 3 years!

I will NEVER buy another pair of RSVP shoes EVER again!

Don’t Purchase This: Earth Aspire Flats

Double OUCH!!!
My not so positive review of Earth Aspire shoes

Even though I love heels, there is a need in my line of work for flats. I actually love flats. They were my shoe of choice for the longest time, and they are my default shoes for my non-work days. However, not all flats are created equal. Just because a shoe is a flat does not mean it will be comfortable. Nor does it mean it will be useful for what you need it. At my new venue I do considerably more standing and walking around than I have previously, and as such, I have been trying different flat shoes to accommodate.

The first pair I tried was a carry over from my previous employment, and I found out quickly that they were not sufficient. The second pair I tried was a slightly modified version of the first, but still managed to blister and hurt my feet. So for the third pair, I decided to do some research and splurge a little on some better quality shoes. I looked up many different brands and finally, based on a tip from someone, settled on the Earth footwear brand.

From the website, I found that these shoes were made from special, light weight, form fitting material, called BioFit, and they also had a special “negative heal technology” called Kalsø. This is supposed to strengthen and tone the legs while promoting a “natural walking motion”. Looking through the website a found that these shoes look better than some of the other toning shoes I’ve seen, but they are still not the most stylish shoes ever. That aside, I decided to go to one of internet stores that sell the shoes (they’re not for sale on the actual website) and look at some of the reviews.

BumpIts: Fabulous Find or Fashion Nightmare?

Seriously, the first time I saw a BumpIts commercial, I laughed. From flat to fabulous in seconds? I’m not so sure if that’s what I want my hair to look like…

There are plenty of great Testimonials on their website, of course, but is it just another one of those as-seen-on-tv things?

Check out this little clip I found about BumpIts on You Tube…

You don’t have to watch the whole thing… About 20-30 seconds of it will give you a pretty good idea of what it is… Then you can watch the the version on their home page.

Personally, I would think it would be heavy and feel funny sitting in there all day. And what if it came loose? And what if you have thin hair and it shows through? So many things could go wrong with this!

Maybe it would be useful for special occasions like your prom or wedding, but I can’t imagine using it for every day use. What do you ladies think?

Fabulous Find or Fashion Nightmare? Add your two cents…

CoverGirl Exact Eyelights Mascara

January 23rd, 2009 by The Fashionable Housewife

It’s a good mascara, but it doesn’t really make your eyes “pop”. I just didn’t get that effect from it…

“CoverGirl Exact Eyelights was created to give women a subtle color enhancement that complements your total beauty look. The difference is subtle, but compared to bare lashes, eyes appear four times brighter.”

Of course it’s better than using no mascara at all, but who doesn’t wear mascara? Seriously!

Maybe it’s just me… The mascara for brown eyes is just a black color. I would be interested in knowing how the one for blues eyes works. Or maybe the ones for hazel eyes, which appears to be a pretty purple/plum color.

As mascara, this is actually pretty great. No clumps or lumps. So it’s a good formula, but I don’t get the eye brightening affect it promises. After googling for reviews of the mascara, it looks like I’m not the only one who doesn’t get the promised results.

Hear me out… I LOVE CoverGirl. You ladies know I swear by my CoverGirl LashBlast Mascara in “Black”icon. I seriously won’t leave the house without a coat of this stuff on my lashes.

There are literally like a dozen CoverGirlicon products I swear by, would endorse, and rave about all the time. But this, my friends, is not one of them.

Have you tried this mascara? What did you think?

Don’t Purchase (Or Eat) This!!

Allright ladies, we’ve got a definite “Do Not Buy” situation here.

I recently tried out the newest offering from Weight Watchers’… Their new “Golden Sponge Cake with Creamy Filling”.

First off, if you love Twinkies, you’ll love these… Which would probably explain why I don’t.

They don’t taste low fat, which is good, and they don’t look low fat, which I guess was good, and overall an enjoyable treat… except for the aftertaste.

Imagine eating your hub cap. Or maybe even your stainless steel refrigerator…. Whatever you can think of that would leave a dry, metallic aftertaste in your mouth…

I’m sure you’ve eaten or at least ingested something that tasted… well kinda metallicky before. Know what I’m saying? And these sponge cakes taste just like that. Gross, right?

Well I looked at the ingredients… and aluminum was actually in the ingredient list. WTF?

Now I’m sure that Weight Watchers has a lot of scrumptious treats for those watching their waistlines, but the Sponge Cake is definitely not one of them. At least for me! I dare you to try it…

But hey, maybe it’s just me… Style List seems to think they’re great! And so does Kailani over at An Island Review.

Yes, they are a great little indulgence when you are on a diet and you need a snack. I mean, they do only have 80 in each one, which is pretty stinkin’ amazing when you think about it… Especially when you compare it to Hostess Twinkies which have 150 calories in each one!

If you like things like Twinkies, then you’ll probably love these (minus the weird aftertaste) but if you eat organic like me then something this sweet and fluffy probably won’t make your day.

But hey, it’s only like $4 for a box, so be brave and try a box for yourself. If you don’t have the guts to share in my misery, then at least pick up another flavor and tell me what you think! The Lemon Cake and Chocolate Cake ones might be better!
