Nail Polish: China Glaze Entourage Neon Green

Happy-St-Patricks-Day

I decided I would polish my nails green for St. Patrick’s Day! I chose China Glaze “Entourage” from the Summer 2009 Kicks Collection. It reminds me of Shrek!

I started with a coat of Orly Bonder (my fav basecoat) on clean nails.

Then I put on the first coat to find that it was almost transparent!

1 coat

So I decided I needed a second coat, at least… Apparently that wasn’t enough though!

2 coats

A third coat did the trick though and looked lovely.

3 coats!

They looked great all week long and I even ended up painting my ring finger one shade darker and a few days later, I decided to accent with Orly “Watch It Glitter” gold polish.

When it was time to say goodbye to the lovely green nails, what was left, was not pretty…..

My nails were left tinted green and totally gross looking. Even pure acetone could not get these babies clean. I was so grossed out! Apparently with three coats of green, you need at least 2 coats of basecoat… UGH.

What’s your favorite basecoat? Has this ever happened to your nails?

Easter Nails: Pastels, Polka Dots & Flowers

My almost 6 year old daughter came over to the computer and started admiring the Easter nail art I was viewing on Pinterest. “Mommy, will you do my nails tonight?! I want Easter nails! Let’s do pastels, polka dots and flowers!”

At first, we were admiring the gorgeous nail stickers from Jamberry:

Easter Nail Shields from Jamberry

I think the Basket Weave print is my favorite. I will have to try that soon! I also love the Hippity Hop bunny print one… Super cute! My daughter has been talking about Easter since before Valentine’s Day for some reason…. She’s super pumped about the Easter Bunny this year and that’s not even something we “do” or encourage in our household. I’m not sure where it’s coming from, but now she’s all about Easter Nail Art!

What are you going to put on your nails this holiday season?

How to Nail the Red Carpet Looks From the Academy Awards

Both Anne Hathaway and Catherine Zeta-Jones shined at the Academy Awards, and makeup artist Tom Bachik used polish colors from  L’Oréal Paris’ new limited-edition Versailles Romance Colour Riche Nail Collection, available in March, and New York Nudes to accent their look.

Anne Hathaway

On Anne, Bachik used a baby pink hue called “The Palace Life.” He accented her nail look by using a delicate silver pen to draw  the initials of Anne’s grandmothers, both maternal and paternal. The polish shade complimented her soft pink dress beautifully!

Catharine Zeta Jones

Meanwhile, on Zeta-Jones Bachik opted for a full coverage nude polish to complement, not detract, from her gorgeous gold gown. The shade he used was “Broadway Boogie,” a part of the limited edition New York Nudes Collection.

Each polish retails for $5.99.

What To Wear With Holiday Nail Art

I wanted to do my nails ALL WEEK, but life got in the way…

When I saw that Jamberry had Valentine’s Day Nail Wraps, I was pretty excited. Unfortunately, I didn’t get them on my nails before the big holiday hit. I kinda want to wear them anyway though… The hearts are so cute!

Do you think I would look silly with Valentine’s Day hearts on my nails the week after the holiday has ended? Their Valentine’s Day nail art stickers are sooo cute! Check out this one…

Jamberry has some really cute Easter Nail Shields too that I can’t wait to try. Maybe I will actually get them on my nails before Easter arrives!

The only problem I ever face when I have nail art of any kind on my nails is that I feel the need to match my outfit to my nails. I’m afraid that a print on my nails will clash with my outfit and ruin whatever “look” I’m trying to creative.

Do you have that problem too? Or do you just ignore your nails and dress however you want?

Bellapierre Cosmetics Nail Color – Engine Gray

Looking for the perfect neutral gray nail polish? This one is gorgeous but I got some interesting results…

This nail color from Bellapierre Cosmetics is the perfect grey nail polish. It’s called “Engine Gray” and it’s a shimmery, metallic gray color that is just dark enough to be classy but not so dark that it’s creepy. I like it better on my nails then in the bottle…

Bellapierre Cosmetics Nail Polish

It was a little streaky after two coats, but I think that was from the brush, not the polish itself. The brush had a stray, straggly bristle on it that I had to cut off, so that may have affected the brush performance.

Even though it was a little streaky, I loved the color A LOT! It looked great, it seemed like it was going to hold up well. Unfortunately, it did NOT!!!!!!!!!!

Nail Polish: Sephora by O.P.I. in “Dark Room”

I polished my nails with SEPHORA by OPI Nail Colour in ‘Dark Room’ on Monday. (Check it out on Instagram!) It was my first time using this particular color, even though I purchased it at least a year ago. I kinda have a nail polish obsession… I keep buying it… and then buying more… And I might need a 12 step program for this, but anyway…

It took 2 coats to make it look even. The application was quite thin so it dried quickly. I was not happy with the overall results, but I did love the color. After a day, it looked dull, almost matte. This color is so dark, it really needed a high shine to it. I ended up applying a good coat of Sally Hansen Mega Shine. It looked a lot better after that.

Now it’s been a week and I ended up with a few chips on the tips, so I touched them up. I was pretty bored with this color in general so I decided I’d mix things up a bit and throw on London Butter Matte Finish Topcoat. The results? Definitely worth sharing!

I liked this MUCH better. It looked fine for a little while with a high shine top coat, but it just seemed to get dull again and look boring. Putting a matte top coat on really made it funky. Who would have thought that a shine free topcoat would have fixed it? Well, I love it.
