The Children’s Place Gets Preppy for Spring- PLUS Contests!

With all the play 80s fashion has been getting for the past several years, I was pleased to see The Children’s Place featuring preppy looks when I shopped its Spring event a few days ago. While it’s true that stripes, plaids, and bows flood me with those fuzzy John Hughes-esque memories of my childhood, they’re also staples of classic fashion and always at home on kids.

I love the pretty looks that TCP is showing for girls:

and the preppy basics for boys:

Of course it’s TCP, so although timeless stripes and madras abound, there are also cheeky, trendy details to please edgy parents and kids. Just check out the “logo” on this striped polo:

And even though Punxsutawney Phil predicted six more weeks of winter, he’s a groundhog not a meteorologist, so I thing we’d all be wise to get our Spring shopping going. TheChildren’sPlace.com is making that easy with the following offer, now thru 2/06:

30% off orders of $60+ with code U2G2012
25% off orders of $50+ with code V2G2012
20% off any size order with code W2G2012 (See the website for further details.)

And be sure to enter to win our Children’s Place Valentine Giveaway, and while you’re at it, enter the Love You, Baby Contest on The Children’s Place Facebook page!

Save $1,500 On Your Next Outfit

I love paying full retail price!  I want instant gratification, and if it means buying NOW rather than waiting for something to go on sale, I say go for it!  Just kidding.  I love saving money as much as the next person, but I also have a soft spot for beautiful designer duds.  I mean who doesn’t.  (Probably a lot of people, but I doubt they’re reading this blog…anyway…)  I was playing the internet is my closet game and came across the following pieces on Shop Style:

Giulietta Polka Dot Silk Crepe Tee $475 at Net-A-Porter

L'Agence perforated Leather Mini Skirt $575 at Barney's

Giuseppe Zanotti Double Platform Booties $795 at Barney's

Add that all up and you’ve got a $1,845 smashingly good-looking outfit.  So what if it’s a mortgage payment, it’s important to look good so you can feel good, right?  But wait…do my eyes deceive me:

StyleMint Rush Polka Dot Tee $29.99

Vegan Leather Skirt $148 at Free People

Michelle Suede Bootie $79.98 at ShoeMint

Almost the exact same outfit for A LOT less!  Like $1,587 LESS!  Now that’s what I call bargain shopping.  And the best part is, you can get the entire look on-line, so you don’t have to leave the comfort of your house on this cold and dreary winter day to get instant gratification!

What’s Your Shopping Experience with BeachMint?

No surprise that I’m a fan of the BeachMint family:  JewelMint, StyleMint, BeautyMint, and the newest member ShoeMint.   My closet is packed with StyleMint Ts and my daughters love the interesting accessories that JewelMint turns out each month.  But if you follow any of these Mints on Facebook, or have had personal shopping experiences with them, you may have noticed that the customer service department doesn’t quite have its act together.  (As a business owner myself, I have one thought for the Mints:  Get with it guys…)  There was the bungled launch of  StyleMint Cashmere last week, and it seems that all the Mints are having supply issues.  Personally, all my shopping experiences with them have been fine, BUT, my recent order with ShoeMint ran into some challenges.  After ordering the Pauline’s in Wine, I received an email notifying me that they were out of stock and would I like to be wait listed.  Yes, I would.  I placed my (waitlisted) order on December 2 and finally received my shoes on December 20!  Snaps to the customer service peeps (maybe they are reading the comments on FB) they included a little sumptin’-sumptin’ from JewelMint as an apology for the delay, and my shoes and I are now becoming acquainted.

I will say this for the quality of the shoes:  It’s really good.  Granted the heel height is absurd.  I mean seriously, I’m almost 6’2″ in 6″ heels, and who really has the kind of day that warrants that kind of wedge (?), but for the random day that I feel the need to rock my inner Gabby Reese, I’ll take it.   They fit true to size and the quality of the leather and craftsmanship is excellent.

I’ll be interested to see how the second month of ShoeMint goes.  My impression is that the inaugural month was a tough one.  And I’m sure that there is a segment of the shoe buying population that would love to see some diversity in the heel height options.

Overall I’ll give the Mints 4 out of 5 stars.  I love the concept and the quality of the merchandise, but if they are going to keep me a captive customer they are going to have to up their game in the selection and delivery departments.

searsStyle – Splurge vs Steal for Holiday Looks

Christmas is almost here and the Holiday Season is upon us! One of the biggest things I stress out about when it comes to the Holidays is what I’m going to wear!!!! I have so many clothes, but most days I don’t have time to try to figure out how to put them together to make a fabulous outfit.

Before I had two kids, I used to put together fantastic outfits everyday but now that my life has been overtaken by sippy cups and diapers, fashion isn’t always a part of my daily routine. (I know, I know…. The Fashionable Housewife can’t even stick to her own rules!)

When trying to plan my Christmas Outfit I browsed many websites and found lots of super fabulous items I wanted. Unfortunately, my dream outfit cost more than I could afford….

Dress: Alice & Olivia Beaded Tiered Dress – $645
Shoes: Christian Louboutin Burlina T Strap Pump – $895
Bag: MICHAEL Michael Kors Large Sequin Wristlet – $98

Outfit Cost: $1,638

OUCH!!!! That’s more than I paid for my new fridge!

Well I was delighted to find I could find similar looking items for a lot less at Sears!

ShopStyle

Dress: Sally Lou Beaded Tulip Tier Cocktail Dress – $50
Shoes: Kardashian Kollection Dallas T Strap Pump – $30
Bag: La Regale Sequin Flap Clutch – $15

Outfit Cost: $95

That’s a much more manageable price for a Christmas party outfit!

Last-Minute Christmas: Pajamas from The Children’s Place

When do you open your Christmas gifts? At our house, we’ve settled into a tradition of opening one gift on Christmas Eve and saving all the rest for the next morning. Since this wasn’t how either my husband or I did it growing up, I’m not sure how we came up with this, but I love it. And for the past few years that Christmas Eve present has been one very specific item– pajamas.

Taking the time to wash everyone’s pajamas before I wrap them means we can wake up Christmas morning wearing our new jammies, so we’re ready for photos as we leisurely (ha!) unwrap our remaining presents.

If you’re looking for cute pajamas for your kids, I highly recommend The Children’s Place. My little guy exclusively wears TCP pajamas, and I’ve found them to be durable, warm, and comfy. Plus, with almost every option under $20 (and some even less than $15 or $10), they make an easy add-on gift. Check out a few options below:

Since there are so many Children’s Place locations, you should be able to find adorable pajamas near you. Even better- orders under $75 ship for just $5, and orders over $75 ship for FREE.
