Product Review: Hair Accessories from Sproos + Coupon Code

February 5th, 2012 by Denise Shively

Recently, the lovely Melissa Matos from Sproos sent me a couple of hair accessories to try and review for The Fashionable Housewife readers. Her shop offers unique hair accessories that are high quality without the high price – plus, her products are just so darn cute!

She sent me the Cheetah’s Roar Bow Clip, ($13) which you can use to add a bit of pizazz to your look. Plus, it functions as more than just a hair accessory – you can clip it to just about anything to really show off your personal style. I clipped it to my handbag and got so many compliments while I was out running errands. I also like to wear it with a basic t-shirt and jeans, because it really helps dress up an otherwise basic outfit.

I was also sent the Girl With The Pearl Bow Headband, ($29.) Now, I’m not normally much of a headband girl – they tend to make me remember the painful, uncomfortable plastic headbands I used to wear as kids. However, this headband is not only elegant and very stylish, but it’s ridiculously comfortable to wear too. If you love bows, pearls and classic style, you’ll definitely love this headband.

Melissa was kind enough to create a coupon code just for The Fashionable Housewife readers. If you’re interested in these hair accessories from Sproos, use the code “Denise20” at checkout for 20% off your entire order. How’s that for a fantastic deal? With a variety of bow clips, headbands and flower clips to choose from, you’ll have no trouble at all finding things to fill your cart with. Happy shopping!

Fashion Conundrum Update

Elizabeth & James Manor Wedge Ankle Bootie

Well, I’m sure you were all waiting with baited breath…I ended up buying the ankle wedge booties (no surprise there – I’m TERRIBLE at resolutions…) and am pleased to report back that they are totally worth it!  The style is available at several e-tailers, including My Habit, Shopbop, Piperlime and Zappos.  While my favorite color was the Taupe Suede at My Habit:

Taupe Suede Manor Ankle Wedge Bootie $176 at MyHabit.com

I went with the black suede because I wasn’t crazy about the return policy at My Habit in case the boots didn’t fit or I hated them.  Piperlime has them in Mocha Leather (not wild about it) and the price is almost $125 MORE!

Mocha Leather, $299 at Piperlime.com

Originally priced at all sites for $375, and currently ranging in price from  $325 to  $176, I decided to order from Zappos where they were listed for  $177.  I ordered them at 7 pm and no joke, they were on my front door step the following afternoon – less than 24 hours after ordering them!  Way to go, Zappos!   After several outfit pairings I’m happy to report that they look really cute with skinny jeans and boot cut jeans, and add the perfect rocker/bad ass vibe to a very full plaid maxi skirt that trends a little too much toward Ma Wilder for my taste.  They are surprisingly comfortable, and don’t make my arches or heels ache after hours of wearing.  The quality of the leather is very good, and the laces and lace holes are substantial and well cut.  Best of all, paired with dark tights or leggings, they make you legs look a mile long…never a bad thing!

And unlike a certain pair of uber high wedge booties sold by a certain Fashion It Girl on her own monthly shoe site, you can actually drive in these because the sole is flat and you can feel the gas and brake pedals!

So all in all I’m giving the style and the shopping experience 5 stars.  If you want to go on a fashion adventure of your own, this is one that I would recommend!

Cover Your Boots with CovFurs

Frigid temps finally hit the East Coast this week, and even if there isn’t any snow to speak of, winter is definitely here.  Which means you probably are going to spend a whole lot of time in boots.  Which can get pretty boring, because chances are everyone around you is wearing the same kind of boot.  If you want to stand out in the crowd a bit, try the new CovFurs.  Made of high quality faux fur, they add a rich elegant look to any boot and allow you to express your mood on any given day.  Feeling Furocious (sorry!)…try the tiger print:

Or go glam with a sleek chinchilla style:

Chinchilla, worn Traditional style
CovFurs look and feel like real fur but are always faux.  And Best of all, all CovFur products are made in the USA.  CovFurs also offers a line of complimentary faux fur scarves to complete your winter look.  Priced at $39.99 per pair, you can create a whole new boot wardrobe without breaking the bank.  CovFurs are available on-line at Covfurs.com.

First Fashion Conundrum of 2012…

OK ladies, I’m back at it…this time it’s wedge booties.  Thumbs up or thumbs down?  There is something appealing about the shape and style of wedge booties but I can’t get over the clunky heaviness of the shoe.   I worry that they will only style well with jeans and cords, and that they might only work for the under 20 set.  Clearly someone is loving them because the Jolly has sold out TWICE on ShoeMint:

Jolly $79.98 at ShoeMint.com

And these Manor Ankle Wedges from Elizabeth & James are softly calling my name:

Manor Ankle Wedge $276 at Ssence.com

I feel that 2012 is the year to (gasp) become a bit more practical in shoe choices.  Something tells me wedge ankle boots are too trendy, and honestly, I’m getting a little tired of the super-high-platform-built-into-the-heel-just-to-add-more-height theme.  Seriously, those of us over 5’6″ could start our own basketball team wearing some of the latest heels!

But they are really cute…and they might “ground” a floaty plaid maxi skirt…and they are on sale…

So…I’m putting this one out to you, our fashionable readers.  Yes or No to ankle wedge booties?  Leave us a comment and tell us your opinion.  And if you have any great styling ideas, tell us those too!
