Spring 2009 Hair Cuts: Cropped Bob & The Pixie
In 2009, the hair trends are all about the extremes. When it comes to The Bob Hairstyle, it’s the real “play-it-safe” hair-doo for 2009. It’s the only hair cut that isn’t extreme in any one direction and it’s leftover from 2008 so you have a high risk of blending in with the crowd with a bob this spring.
However, there are ways around this. If you want to keep your short hair, mix it up a bit by doing a cropped bob or a Pixie Cut. Both are low maintenance hairstyles that are totally and more interesting than a standard bob cut.
Another way to mix it up a bit is to have your stylist cut a few fringe style bangs for you. Play with texturizing sprays and waxes for added dimension.
Textured Crop: To achieve this easy-going hairstyle, ask your stylist for choppy layers. For optimal results, have your stylist use a razor for this part. This adds texture and dimension. Wash and air-dry and finish with a styling wax to enhance the layered pieces. The volume created by the short pieces on the top of your head will add height and beautiful volume. This helps balance a round face like Mandy Moore’s.
Messy Look: You can also go for a messier look like Agyness Deyn by simply shampooing, conditioning and apply mousse while hair is still wet. Then let air-dry. When dry, add a shine wax to the ends. And to get the messy look, grab hair at the crown and pull up after applying the wax. Spray lightly with a flexible hold hair spray like Aussie Opposites Attract Extra Strong + Touchable Feel Hairspray
Pixie Cut: Rub a large blob of sculpting serum or mousse in your hands and work through your hair. Continue brushing through with a one-inch ceramic round brush pulling hair forward toward the face. Let hair air-dry. Or you can blow-dry hair forward and accentuate the pieces with styling wax.

This is my personal favorite. This texturizing spray work great on short to medium hair. Just shake well. Spray onto dry hair. Use fingers to tousle and lift layers. To define curls, spray onto damp hair and scrunch.

@2. – Hi Zobars. I actually haven’t seen any “in” hair styles for short curly hair! Have you tried straightening your hair and spiking it? Like a pixie hair style? Use a shampoo and conditioner that encourages straightness and then use a straightening balm like Sexy Hair Blow It Up Gel
actually, an inverse bob can look really good with wavy or curly hair.. my friend has pretty curly hair and she wears it short in an inverse bob style and it looks great on her!

@5. – Hi Jasmin. Finding a good salon is no easy task. Best bet is to stay away from places like Cost Cutters and in-mall salons.
Except to pay at least $40 for a hair cut. When it comes to letting someone else cute your hair, you definitely get what you pay for! I’m sure you can find a reputable salon near you that you’d be happy with.
Good tip is to look for salons that do more than cut hair. Generally places that also do professional waxing etc, are going to have more professional people working for them.
Too bad you don’t live in NH. You could go to my salon! My stylist Jon, is soooo good. I will never go to anyone else.

i have brown straight hair thats just over the sholder. i have a side parting with a fringe that is just over my eyebrows. i always straighten my hair and it look very nice but im getting bored of this style now, and i want to know if there is any other hair styles/cut that would suit me. p.s. i have an oval/round face shape.

I found my stylist because a friend went to the same salon for a haircut. I’ve also been so bold as to walk up to someone with an awesome haircut and say, “I LOVE your hair! Who’s your stylist?”
You absolutely DO NOT have to pay $40 for a great hair cut.
My stylist is $25 and she has done every hair style imaginable for me. Just yesterday I went and got a pixie. It’s perfect.
And I totally agree with asking somebody with cute hair where they got it cut. That’s how I found my stylist. I’ve been going for years.
I’ve paid as much as $50 for a cut before, but now I get a way better hair cut for half the price.
No, you don’t HAVE to pay $40 for a great haircut, but you’ll be hard pressed to find someone who costs less and can actually cut hair properly. At least that’s my experience…
I don’t like trusting my hair to another person, so I haven’t been to a lot of different places in order to find the best price. And I’m sure, most people wouldn’t want to do that either.
Congrats on finding a great stylist that only charges $25! Where abouts is your stylist? You must share your wonderful, cheap stylist with the rest of us!
Wow! I get a cut and a wax for $25… Then again my stylist has been a friend of mine for the past 11 years – and this is the salon price that is charged for both. But tis NOT the ‘Full Service” Price. It’s the price for a cut and wax, of course she styles it before you walk out the door and she also gives pointers on how to keep the GREAT look.
I ONLY see ONE person for my hair. If she moves or I do, I’d be frantic – well maybe not, but I’m PICKY about who touches my head.
My last cut was a pixie – on Sunday… Oh and we’re doing highlights in a couple of weeks. My stylist and I are thinking blonde or red.
I simply love the pixie cut, it’s sweetly chic!
