I guess you can tell I have autumn on my mind! The humidity has me thinking of the cooler days ahead – lol.
The editors at Glamour magazine have selected their five must-have looks to fall for. Executive Fashion Director Suze Yalof Schwartz visited The Early Show (in NYC) with the scoop of fall trends. It was the first of a week-long series called “Focus on Fashion.”
This season’s fashion is about elegance with a touch of luxury. It’s time to put away the bohemian look and start getting dressed! You will see the look this year is more polished, a bit more grown-up.
1. The faux fur trend – Faux fur trim is hot!
One of the newest trends in outerwear for the fall is the faux fur-trimmed parka. We saw this look on the runways of Ralph Lauren and Chanel. Parkas are great because they’re fashionable and practical; it will keep you dry, warm, and chic all at the same time.
Head-to-toe white is also big for the fall – forget the age-old rule that says no white after Labor Day.
2. Mod – The crazy ’60s futuristic look is hip this fall.
Anything ’60s-inspired goes this fall – think big plastic sunglasses, headbands, flat square-toed boots, and psychedelic colors. A knock-off of a Marc Jacobs runway look. For a more covered-up look, wear opaque tights or high boots with a flat sole.
3. Black and White
Black and white in great, fun prints are in. Graphic black-and-white prints were seen on coats, dresses, and skirts this fall. For a modern look, pair a graphic coat with a mini. For a more classic look, wear this coat with a longer pencil skirt or jeans.
4. Tweed
This year’s tweed is not your grandmother’s tweed. It’s been redone to look sexy and chic. The mini-tweed suit in pastels is one of the hottest looks for fall; we saw one at Chanel. The suit is inappropriate for most work environments, but is perfect for dinner or drinks. For the office, invest in a pastel tweed suit with a longer skirt.
5. Shine
Shine is not good for your face, but it is a great look for clothes this fall. When it comes to evening wear this fall, the shinier the better.
The newest way to cover up is to pair a satin dress with a vintage-inspired fur cardigan or with a leather bomber jacket – put away your pashmina.
One look is inspired by the shiny dresses seen on the runways at Ralph Lauren and Blumarine.
