Wow, your story brought tears to my eyes. It reminds me of my son's birth, which will be one year ago tomorrow, as we celebrate him being 1! He was 5 1/2 weeks early due to low fluid around him in the uterus. Because he was also breech, I had to have him by c-section. He was so early that his lungs weren't developed enough to breathe on his own so he had to have tubes down his lungs. He also had a heart murmur and other problems. After 2 days at the community hospital, he had to be transported to the University hospital and stayed there for another 18 days. Those 3 weeks were the most stressful days of my life. Every day, my husband and I would drive down to just sit by his side, not knowing what was going to happen. But now, thanks to the power and love of God, he is about to celebrate his first birthday, and is one of the happiest little boys I've seen. And completely healthy. Thank you for sharing your story!

I was fortunate enough to have an awesome team of maternity ward nurses. Maybe they were just that good or remembered me from a few years earlier when my son was still born.

Your essay was moving. I'm getting very emotional at work, right now, thinking about my two little miracles. When you have your children healthy in your arms, who cares about fitting into size 4 pair of jeans?

There's nothing like a loving touch to cure.

Incredibly well written, had me sniffling and tearing up. It is amazing that by your simple touch he calmed, that's just amazing. Sometimes all they need is to know Momma is there...

I can't wrap my head around a hospital staff like that, I live near Seattle and would love to know which hospital it was so I can be sure to not go there! Sheesh.
