PHILLIP WILSON’S

HOLIDAY HAIR INSPIRATIONS

FHI HEAT HELPS WOMEN RING IN THE NEW YEAR WITH FESTIVE LOOKS TO CREATE AT HOME USING A STYLING IRON OR JEWELED ACCESSORY

Cleveland – Phillip Wilson, newly appointed Global Creative Director for FHI Heat professional hair tools, predicts festive holidays in spite of stormy weather on Wall Street. “Mastering just a few basic tools and techniques allows a woman to give herself a personal style which exudes confidence and optimism,” he says. “That’s what we all want to project during the holidays and moving forward into the new year.”

While stocks tumbled in the last quarter of 2008, The New York Times reported that the “Lipstick Index,” described as “the frivolous financial barometer that says cosmetics sales rise in direct relation to free-falling finances,” soared (Ellen Tien, “Frown Fighters”, November 9, 2008). “Women want to look and feel glamorous, in spite of bad economic news,” says Wilson. “Being fabulous over the holidays gives all of us the resolve to press on.”

Emphasis on Texture
Texture is the big message for creating quick glamour at home, according to Wilson. “The pin-straight, flat-ironed look that has dominated the runway and fashion pages feels heavy and somber this season,” says Wilson. “We’re after something more vivacious now. It’s easy to create something light and fizzy like champagne, using the same hair tools.”

At-Home Styling Tips for Shoulder-Length or Shorter Hair:
Create a sophisticated “Under-Over” effect with the FHI Heat Technique G2 series 1-inch styling iron (retail $120.00 at www.fhiheat.com) by mixing directions. On one layer, flick the ends up, turning the wrist away from the face. On the next layer, reverse, flicking the ends down (turning the wrist toward the face). Repeat process, making sure that the last layer is flipped up. “This is an effect that the new First Lady Michelle Obama has mastered,” comments Wilson. “Her flip is complex and modern as a result.”

At-Home Styling Tips for Shoulder-Length or Longer Hair:
Long hair often tends to look and feel heavy. Give a long mane lift and dimension by “fast-setting” with braids and heat.  Start by sectioning the top two layers into one-inch hanks. Braid each hank loosely-”Do not braid tightly, as this will prevent even, rapid heat distribution,” says Wilson. Move the FHI Heat Technique G2 1-inch styling iron slowly down each braid, scalp to ends. Repeat (heat each braid through twice). Allow braids to cool completely. When cool, gently open with fingers and gloss with FHI Heat Hot Sauce (retail $14.00 at www.fhiheat.com).  Do not brush.  For a funky downtown look, leave ends straight; for more polish, turn ends under with the iron.

Hip Holiday Hair Accessory
The hair-ornament of choice this holiday season is not the usual jeweled barrette, but a true tiara like those worn by pageant contestants as well as numerous brides. “This Ice Queen accessory is at once humorous, ironic and optimistic about the future,” says Wilson. “Everyone at the party will want to wear it.”

The new technologically advanced FHI Heat products are available at fine hair salons and professional beauty retailers nationwide, via toll-free number at 877.FHI.HEAT (877.344.4328) and online at www.fhiheat.com. Products offered by FHI Heat include blow dryers, styling irons, curling irons, heat razors, heat-activated conditioners, styling clips, carbon combs, brushes and a chemical straightening system.
