I just bought two this season: OPI’s new “Louvre Me, Louvre Me Not” which is a beautiful deep purple shade and Chanel’s “Haute Chocolat” – (pricey, but since I’m virtually not buying any clothes this season, I wanted to treat myself.). It’s a gorgeous shade of brown with glod flecks in it and I’ve had it on a week and no chips!

Ooohh…I love these color choices. Especially Zoya in Indigo. I recently tried a navy polish but it was too blue. Mixing some red in (what can I say, I’m crazy!) made it purple – of course. LoL. So I think I will give this one a go. I also love the look of the first Zoya one you listed – Mata Hari. :)

    Chris says:

First of all I would like to say I am a 34yr old Man. I have lived in NYC and other metro cities and consider myself fashion forward in my own styles, BUT as for these “new” nail polishes, I think they are “DISGUSTING” and I feel a “lot” of men would also agree. Who wants to go out with a woman who’s nail polish reads BLACK when going out to dinner, I personally would be embarrassed being seen with a woman wearing these new disgusting colors. Give me a break, Navy blue nail polish and silver, ugh. I think women look much better in more traditional light shades, which generally go with whatever type outfit she is wearing. While i do think it can be fun to buy some fashion forward trendy clothing, I feel nail polish colors should have been LEFT ALONE!

    Winnie says:

I don’t think if I was a woman, I would ever go out with someone as abhorrent as Chris. Through his comment, I realized how much I love dark colors. Nail polish is not symbolic of who the person is and it’s controlling (by nature) to snub any female who wears dark colors through his/her preference. As a woman, I’m deeply offended by Chris’ comment seeing as he’s not a woman and still manages to insult a fashion trend. How can you be fashion forward and be condescending to this huge “dark color” trend?!

    Brandy says:

I don’t know about other women, however as for myself; I wear whatever I want to without any regards to if it pleases a man or not. If a “man” would not date me, because of my nail polish color, then fine that is his choice. One of the issues with America these days, people pushing their own likes and dislikes on others…and about NAIL POLSIH…seriously Chris get a LIFE and stop trolling womens pages, if we wanted your opinion we would ask for it..

    April says:

I stumbled across this page while looking for ideas to do my first color manicure in probably nearly a year, and I just felt I needed to add a comment of my own:

I fluctuate between preferring the above colors and the lighter shades that Chris mentioned. I suppose that, in general, one’s age has a lot to do with whether these shades seem attractive. I am in my early 30′s and I notice that my friends who are older than me tend toward either lighter shades or nothing, while my younger friends wear every color imaginable. I like seeing all of it, except the fluorescent ones!

Usually I don’t wear much polish because manicures (on me) seldom last more than 24 hours and that annoys me tremendously. My lack of polish is further reinforced by the fact that my husband likes bare nails or french manicure the best. Still, there is a part of me that loves the purples and reds on my friends. Lately I am craving color for myself again, so much that I’m just about ready to shell out some money for a topcoat that will last.

I don’t think Chris was so offensive; he is simply offering a man’s honest perspective. I think (and hope) many women would find valuable and worth considering, if you have a special man in your life. I don’t think that his saying he wouldn’t like to be out with a woman wearing black nail polish is the same as saying he would snub her altogether. I realize that “disgusting” is a harsh word, but he probably doesn’t realize how mean that can sound to some women. (Hopefully he’ll read this and take a self-note for the future!)

I have found that men generally seem to prefer cosmetics that appear as natural as possible, which for some, means none at all, if you can get away with that! Some of them don’t understand the fun we girls have with all the colors & textures… Neither one is wrong here- just different. If you are really secure in being yourself, you will be yourself regardless of the opinions of others.

My husband has his preferences, and he let me know them. I am glad he was honest with me; most of the time I would rather wear what he likes because I want him to be pleased when he looks at me. That’s not controlling; it is just a product of my affection for him. Obviously though, he isn’t always going to like what I like (he doesn’t!) — we are two very different people. So, if I wear the purple polish I am considering today, he won’t be surprised and he’s not going to refuse to be seen with me. I hardly think most men are that bad! If you have known someone like that, I’m so sorry for you. Please don’t view all men through that experience– you’ll lose out!

Btw– being “fashion forward” doesn’t mean you are required to like everything people consider a trend!

Ok, I’ve had my soapbox fix :) No hard feelings– I hope!!
