How much to spend on trendy items?

Posted By: Jackie Ayres on September 16, 2009 at 12:00 pm

Hello girls!

I’ve been seeing so much excitement over a few posts that talk about the coming season’s trends. Everyone is commenting and sharing their opinions. That’s terrific! We certainly appreciate that -keep the comments coming. ;)

boots

But some comments made me think… How much is it worth to spend for a trendy item? Let’s pick boots, for example. This fall (2009) we have the over the knee boots. I LOVE boots and I’m thinking of giving them a try (although I think I’m too short – 5′ 3″, and would look like a hooker). Well, what if I go and pay $150 on a pair of boots that I won’t like? On the other hand, what if you buy a pair of similar boots for only $30 and they are extremely uncomfortable, but you really like them? Third option: You buy a cheap boot to see if you like it. You do! Yay! Then you go buy a good quality one, that most likely won’t hurt you, for about $150. Total= $180.

Are YOU willing to spend all that money for a “one season thing”? Of course, there’s always the chance the trend will last for many seasons to come. But most times they don’t.

This is not only for boots, but for everything coming this fall (knee-padded leggings, furs, matte nail poiish, etc, etc…)

    I don’t believe in paying full price…

but I will splurge every now and then on a classic piece. If it’s trendy, I’m not wanting to pay more than $75 bucks for it (and that’s still too much).

I am the clearance, discount store Queen!

I would never pay that kind of money for a “current trend” like over the knee boots or matte nail polish. When was the last time over the knee boots were in style, what the 60’s, 70’s? Yeah, if I wasn’t alive or old enough to wear something the last time it was in style, that means I’m NOT buying it at full price. Cheap knock off, please!!!

I don’t think it’s worth it to spend a lot of money on a current trend. You make a valid point about uncomfortable shoes, but still I dont think it’s worth the extra $$. When it ocmes to clothes I like to shop for trends at places such as H&M and Marshalls. They have a much better price tag then at other stores.
