Posted By: The Fashionable Housewife on September 08, 2009 at 3:41 pm

If you aren’t a stiletto wearing mama, then the idea of ballet flats are probably really appealing to you. Comfort is finally on-trend for a change and ballet flats are wear it starts.

There are many ways to jump on board with the other shoe trends while still wearing ballet flats. Choose colors like wine, burgundy, aubergine, eggplant, plum, and rich purples. Choose materials like patent leather, suede and velvet. You can also incorporate embellishments like studs, ruffles, buckles, buttons and even laces.

No matter which shoe trends appeal to you this season, most of them can be translated onto a comfortable ballet flat. This is great news for women who want to stay trendy and up-to-date, yet still wear sensible shoes they can run around in all day or chase a 2 year old in.

I’ve been shopping for black flats and your article was helpful to me! I realize that my first choice was right, and I should have stuck with suede rather than plain leather. It definitely is “in” this season, and adds a little cuteness to my skinny jeans outfit I’m wearing right now…I’m exchanging these leather ones tomorrow. By the way, I love your fashionable housewife logo. She’s definitely me. ;) caroline
