Fall 2009 Fashion Trends: Indigo and Cobalt

True blues are popping up everywhere this season– from pumps and dresses to handbags and even makeup!

Of course, there’s no reason to go head-to-toe on this one.  Adding just a touch or two is a chic way to show you’re aware of the trend.  Luckily, blue is one of the most flattering sections of the color wheel, so everyone should be able to find a hue that works for them.  Keep a special eye out for inky indigo and dazzling cobalt, the hottest shades right now.  

Indigo is rich and intense, like a more full-bodied version of navy.  It oozes sophistication, especially when paired with winter white.  I’m already in the market for an indigo scarf to wear with my creamy cashmere coat this winter, and although classic red nail polish is one of my all-time style standards, I’m seriously tempted by all the deep blues showing up on fingers and toes right now.  It’s such a decadent shade, and there are many cool ways to add it to your wardrobe.

Cobalt blue is bright and youthful, like Fall’s version of turquoise.  An added bonus– this cheery shade is an instant complexion boost for blah Winter mornings.  And even though it’s vivid, it pairs surprising well with other colors.  For example, adding a touch of it (like jewelry or a handbag) to a plum-colored dress creates an elegant, modern look.  If neutrals are more your thing, brighten up grays with some cobalt accessories.
