Our Interview With Fashion Director Michael Fink

September 15, 2008 @ 6:01 am
Written by

From Paris to Milan, Saks Fifth Avenue Fashion Director Michael Fink has a front row seat to fashion! So in order to bring you the BEST advice in Fall 2008 and Winter 2009 trends, we interviewed Michael last week!

You can check out his video on SaksFifthAvenue.com where he talks about the latest trend and the WANT IT! List.

Here’s what he had to say to us:

Q: So, what’s your fashion advice for the upcoming fall season?

A: The most important thing in fashion and wearing clothes well throughout every season is to wear what you feel comfortable in. This goes for every age, shape, size and gender. When you’re wearing what you like and what fits your personality, you’ll be the most fashionable kid on the block.

Q: What are the most promising, must-have looks and fashion-forward trends for Fall 2008 and Winter 2009?

A: The Saks Fall Want It! List, which is presented by MasterCard, has all the must-have items for both men and women this season. One of my favorite looks for women is a romantic blouse with ruffles, bows or lace worn under a slightly revealing suit jacket. Then you can easily ditch the jacket for a fun, flirty night on the town. As for accessories, all women must have a big, bold necklace with lots of color and shine. Crystals, beads, diamonds…anything goes this season, so don’t be afraid to accessorize the neckline.

Q: When it comes to jeans, should we buy skinny jeans or wide leg jeans this winter?

A: Skinny jeans are still the rage this Fall, and they go perfectly with any kind of boot, one of my favorite items on the Saks Fifth Avenue Fall Want It! list, sponsored by MasterCard. Wear skinny jeans with a slouchy boot or an over the knee boot and you’ll be looking hot all season.

Q: What one thing should we all have on our Fall shopping list?

A: Boots, boots, boots! Choose from a variety of styles and heels; from shoe booties, mid-calf, slouchy to over the knee, flat or stiletto, you can pair a beautiful boot with almost any outfit.

Q: What do you think will be the must-have item for winter?

A: The tailored dress is a classic look that works for everyone. With slim lines and exquisite tailoring, it flatters every type of body, and reminds you of an era when people really took the time to dress and look their best.

Q. Do you have any spring/summer 2009 fashion trend predictions?

A: Variations of the tailored dress will be around for Spring/Summer ’09. Also keep an eye out for pleated pants and Bohemian inspired pieces in upcoming collections.

Q: This may be a hard one to answer, but who’s your favorite designer?

A: I love them all. I really enjoy Ralph Lauren and Donna Karan, but if you asked me this question again, my answer would probably change.

Saks Fifth Avenue and MasterCard will be promoting the Want It! List campaign by hosting a bunch of fancy parties and of course, fashion shows, at Saks locations all around the US. The events began on September 10, 2008. Check out the Saks website or visit your local Saks store for more info.
