Making Old Jewelry New- Experiment #2

Lately, I’ve been rummaging through my jewelry box in search of pieces that aren’t being used enough or could be used in a more current way.  In my first experiment, I successfully converted an old pendant and spare earring into a new, cross pendant.  Since that turned out well, I was ready to move on to a new challenge.

Sometime back in 2003 or 2004, I received this necklace as a gift:

Choker styles were really hot then, but even when it was on trend, this didn’t really work for me.  I found it created an unappealingly choppy look with most of my necklines, and- with five choker length strands of gemstones -it wasn’t particularly comfortable.

Despite those issues, I always loved the interesting mix of pearls, citrine, and moonstone and wished I could wear it more often.  It was a perfect candidate for a jewelry experiment!  Voila:

I had all of the stones restrung into one length, which I can wear doubled or tripled (or even quadrupled if I’m hankering for that choker effect).  Single Stone handled the transformation for me, and I’m thrilled with the job they did.  We utilized the necklace’s existing clasp, so restringing was the only cost.  In its current incarnation, it’s a much more versatile, up-to-date necklace, and I’m sure I’ll wear it all the time!

Hmmm…. Now what else can I update?

Lucie! What a great idea. I am going to go through my jewelry boxes right now and look for pieces to refashion and mix together.
