Spring & Summer 2009 Fashion Trends: Ripped Jeans
By now, you already know that Current/Elliott Boyfriend Jeans are THE jeans for 2009.
If you’re looking for some ripped jeans but don’t want to pay $220+ on the Current/Elliott The Boyfriend Jean, then you’re in luck because I found some Low-Rise Boyfriend Jeans
you can get for only $50 at Delias.com.
The cheapest pair I could find was on Sears.com for only $30. They call them Fragile Boyfriend Jeans. I hope they aren’t actually fragile though…
If you’re open to spending $128 for a pair, check out the Boyfriend Jeans in Santiago Wash from Guess.com. Pricey, but really nice looking!
And if you want boyfriend jeans without the rips and distress, try a pair from Victoria’s Secret. You can get their new Boyfriend Jean for less than $60.

Not to go off on a tangent or anything, but while I was looking for cheap ripped jeans, I discovered that Levis makes a pair of boyfriend jeans for…wait for it…
… $248!!!!!!!!!
I’m sorry, but why? Am I the only one who was under the misconception that Levis made affordable denim??? Geez!!!!! Why would I pay $248 for a pair of Levis when I can get Current/Elliott jeans for $229?
Anyway…… I found another pair of bleach washed Boyfriend Jeans from American Eagle for $39.50 and a cute pair of Destroyed Skinny Crop Jeans and Ripped Boy Fit Jeans, both for $49.50.
So if you want to get on board with the ripped jeans trend, there are definitely some affordable options out there. And the good things is, anyone can wear this trend. You don’t have to be a stick figure to make this trend work. Boyfriend style ripped jeans look good on all shapes and sizes. If you need plus-sizes, you’re in luck because Torrid has a Light-Wash Rolled-Cuff Boyfriend Denim Jean for $52.00. They are really cute!
Because ripped jeans make such a big statement, keep the rest of your outfit simple. A basic tee and flip flops or gladiator sandals are the way to go. You can also wear a simple pair of flats. Be careful not to overdo it with accessories either. Simple earrings, no necklace, and a neutral woven belt works best. This is an easy outfit to put together for running errands during the week or relaxing all weekend. If you need any outfit ideas, let me know and I’ll post some!

I like the idea and even the style of many of these, but I don’t understand why they need to be ripped. I don’t understand the style of ripped jeans. In my mind, whenever someone wears intentionally ripped/tattered jeans, it simply looks unkempt and fake.

That’s my absolute favorite trend this summer/spring. And I like all the baggy ones, doesn’t matter if ripped or not. Looks very sexy and casual to me. But all the guys hate it

@2 yeah my hubby hates it too, but i think it’s really casual. I especially like how it looks on SJP.
My Current Elliott ones are too big for me, so i think they are a little unflattering… (i’m the one in the first pic on the far right…)

The “old school” guys seem to be wary of this trend. I had to plea with my boyfriend in American Eagle not too long ago that these are “cool” jeans now.

@4 they are afraid we’ll look like our moms did back in the 70’s or something! haha

I love the ripped, destroyed style. It’s so great to see the boyfriend jean and other chill, casual styles coming back. I swear, I’ve been trying to tell my friends for years that boyfriend jeans were hot!

Scrolling down I thought the last single photo was of a guy until I saw the feet. These are not flattering. These are the sort of jeans I would wear whilst doing the gardening or painting the house. I wouldn’t wear them out anywhere. And as for paying for a pair – forget it. If you really must have them go to an op shop, pick up a pair for under $10 and rip them yourself!
