Help! In Search of a New Nail Color

Does anyone else get stuck in a manicure rut? Without fail, I’m short/ squared-off/ red. When I want something low-maintenance, I’ll ask for a high-shine buff in lieu of polish, but that’s the extent of my experimentation. And while I’m happy with the short/ squared-off part, I’d love to try a different nail color this Spring. Don’t get me wrong- I’ll always love my red (particularly OPI The Thrill of Brazil and Sally Hansen Diamonds & Rubies), but I’m getting too predictable. Time to shake it up!
Of course, I’ve made this resolution before. Last Fall I was drooling over dramatic shades of black, indigo, and dark purple. Here in LA, that’s what all the coolest fashionistas were sporting (including What Not To Wear‘s Stacy London when I met her in January), so obviously I wanted to try it. Unfortunately, I never found the shade that felt right for me, and now that it’s March, I’m moving on to the current trend.
Everyone is showing bold, fun colors for Spring- unexpected hues that are feminine without being prissy.
That sounds attainable, so I ought to be able to rock that look. I just need the right color! I’m loving the minty greens that are so hot right now and adore the China Glaze Grape Pop that Sarah-Jean tried. But for my first foray into Other-Than-Red territory, a baby step might make more sense…
How about OPI Do You Lilac It? Has anyone tried it? If so, I’d love feedback. Or have you discovered a different shade that you can’t wait to wear all Spring? Suggestions, please! I’m bored with always wearing red…

Ooh! Lilac. I’ll have to try that. I’m in the same rut—either Thrill of Brazil or Essie’s Wicked on my toes and a french manicure on my fingers. I discovered a slightly off-white color by OPI (I wish I could think of the name) that looks awesome on my toes. It’s a nice Spring change.

My go to fave is always Lincoln Park After Dark. But if you want something a little lighter, I think lilac is a great way to go this season. I am also loving a Jade color by OPI I saw in this month’s In Style (with Gwen Stefani on it). Another fave right now is Chanel in Particulere (sp.) OPI has a more affordable alternative.
I went and got my nails done today and like you, I’m a total short/squared off girl. And coincidentally, I got both my nails and toes done with OPI ‘Do You Lilac It?’ and I have to say, I absolutely LOVE it! You should definitely try it! It’s fun, flirty, feminine, and totally springy!
When I’m tired of wearing my usual colours (dark reds, black, indigo, etc…) I love to brighten my tips & toes with a coral colour – Essie/OPI/Nicole all have lovely corals – Deborah Lippman has 3 that I love – It’s DeLovely, P.Y.T and DayTripper (DT has a shimmer which is lovely in the summer sun). Also investigate Butter London’s MacBeth & Jaffa…gorgeous colours that are free of Toulene, Formaldehyde and DBP!
Aw… I knew I could count on TFH readers for good feedback and tips. Thanks so much, ladies! I will let you know how my experimentation goes!
