Shoe Trends for Spring & Summer 2008

Are you ready to go shoe shopping? I can’t wait to put away my boots and break out the sandals. That won’t be happening here in New England for a while yet though… Meanwhile, I’ll have time to find the perfect shoes for spring and summer.

Clothing trends are usually easy to spot and predict, shoe trends are harder. However, we managed to hunt them down and sort through to find the best shoe trends for the coming season. The upcoming Sex And The City movie is going to have a huge impact on the trends. We have managed to find a few hints from them already.

The brown strappy Christian Dior sandals that Carrie is wearing in the picture to the right, are a good clue to what to look for in a spring sandal.

Here is a pair of sandals that are similar in style…

Daniblack on Piperlime

Style: Nance

Color: Black

Price: $140

Where: Piperlime.com

Other hot shoes trends for spring and summer:

Neon Colors:

While neon colors are fun, make sure you don’t end up glowing like a Christmas tree! Neon colors are sure to make your outfit pop so the key to wearing bright colored shoes is “less is more”. Make sure your outfit is comprised of white, tan, beige, navy, gray, or black pieces, then add a brightly colored, neon shoe to make any outfit fun!

Alice + Olivia at Payless

Style: Aiden Wedge

Color: Lime Green and Black

Price: $40

Where: Payless.com

Bright Colors:

Bright colored shoes are easier to wear than neon. You can add a bright blue shoe with an orange dress and get a classy looking outfit. Take cues from Banana Republic and Gap.

‘Daniela’ python-print ballet flat

Style: Daniela

Colors: Black, Green, Brown, Blue, and Amethyst

Price: $96

Where: BananaRepublic.com

Architectural Heels:

Keep your eyes peeled for shoes with ultra funky heels. They are hard to find right now, but will be getting more popular as spring approaches. Shoes with architectural heels are not necessarily easy to walk in or comfortable, so I don’t think this will be a popular or sensible trend for Fashionable Housewives and such.

Lucite Heels at Go Jane

Style: Metallic Snake Lucite Heels

Colors: Gold and Silver

Price: $26

Where: GoJane.com

Two-Tone and Spectator:

A trend from Fall and Winter 2007, this trend will continue into the spring. Fun and flirty, the two-tone shoes can add interest to an otherwise boring outfit.

Cap Toe Platforms at Go Jane

Style: Suede cap toe platform heel

Color: Lilac with blue and pink

Price: $25

Where: GoJane.com

Strappy Shoes:

Straps on shoes are probably going to be the hottest trend in shoes this season. We are going to be seeing a lot of ankle straps, t-straps, cross-straps, and strappy Mary Janes. The more straps the better! We’re getting our cues on this trend from designers like Dolce and Gabbana and Roberto Cavalli.

Carlos™ by Carlos Santana at VS

Style: Patterned wedge sandal

Colors: Red, Tan, Black

Price: $89

Where: VictoriasSecret.com

Funky, Unusual, Weird, and Strange:

You read right! If it’s funky, unusual, weird, or down right strange, it’s in! Look for unique heels, patterns, or design for any type of shoe.

Checker Peep-toes at Go Jane

Style: Checker print peep toe slingback

Colors: Yellow, Orange, Pink

Price: $17

Where: GoJane.com

Other styles we will see include pointy-toed Mary Janes, platform pumps, cork wedges, croc, snake, and animal prints, patent and satin, and patterned fabrics like flowers, circles, or polka dots. Plus, we will still see lots of ballet flats and wedges of all shapes and colors.

We will post more shoes for each category as we near the spring season, so stay tuned!

Strappy heels are great, but I don’t care for the Roman inspired, clunky ones I see in pictures up top. They are not all feminine. The rest of these trends are awful, IMO. Neon heels? NO!

Wow. I’m with Cindi. These are AWFUL. I think they’re all terribly ugly, except the flats. It’s easy to wear flats in fun colors.

    OMG!!! I loove those shoes!!

Carrie’s Dior pumps are absolutely drool-worthy — and I like the cheapie version you found on Piperlime.

Although I’ve yet to see the neon wedges at Payless, I adore Alice + Olivia so I say they’re a “do” :-)

I know its the season for color – but wow, looks like some funky foot fashions.

The architectural heels idea is interesting as it opens doors to new opportunities in shoe designs. Besides the reverse hell…
