Finally! After weeks and week of speculation over what Mrs. Obama would wear to the Inaugural Ball, we finally got to lay eyes on the amazing gown designer by none other than Jason Wu.

The gorgeous asymmetrical gown of white adorned with organza flowers and crystals. It was beautiful enough to be a wedding dress! We especially liked the ruched bodice, fluffy appliqués and sparkling beading. So elegant and Jackie O-esque. The breathtaking gown will be donated to the Smithsonian, per tradition.

Although wearing white to an inauguration seems to be the trend, we kind of appreciate that Michelle didn’t try to buck the system too much. I think it was a wise step to go for something more traditional than rebellious. She will have plenty of time from here on out to impress us with wild outfits. Who knows, she might be the next Carrie Bradshaw! How awesome would that be?

Here are some more photos of Michelle Obama’s
beautiful ballgown designed by Jason Wu:

Another thing I really, really liked was that she wore her hair down. I think it is so much more feminine than any sophisticated up-do.

What did you think of her inauguration ballgown?

Nice dress, she is pretty, but I see her in this dress looking like a bride, isn’t she?

I thought the dress was perfect for her figure, height and shape. Personally, I don’t like it for myself, but I don’t have her height or shape and I’m not the first lady. LOL

What impressed me the most about this whole fashion thing is that Mrs. Obama chose an up-and-coming designer rather than some couture “already established” famous name designer like all the other former first ladies did. This really impressed me probably because I used to be a struggling clothing designer myself. She actually dared to be different and NOT go with a typical big name designer and I love that she decided to do that. This is one decision that already makes her look like a “people person” and “approachable” rather than aloof or snooty. Good for her and I applaud her choice. Mr. Wu must be thrilled – good for him too !!

Michelle O looked stunning, however the color choice surprised me. I love the fact that she choose a gown from an up and coming designer, in a way she will have some influence in the up coming seasons in fashion!

I LOVE the dress, and as a forty-something housewife, I’m going to be watching Mrs. Obama’s fashions VERY closely. So far, I’m loving over 90% of what I’ve seen on her. She seems to strike the balance of girly and serious really well.

I have loathed everything I have seen the woman in until very recently. The yellow dress and coat she wore on the preinaugural train tour was tasteful and modest. I liked it.
The dress she wore for the inaugural ball was lovely. I could have done without the single strap. Wouldn’t it have looked better with two straps or none? She has such well defined and beautiful shoulders, I think that she could have tastefully done strapless. I do credit the designer, fabulous work and fit her figure extremely well.

I couldn’t wait to read your article to see your thoughts! I thought the James Wu gown was a perfect color choice and very elegant on Michelle Obama. However, I did not think the Isabel Toledo dress or color was a great choice for the morning. I especially did not like the green shoes and matching gloves. I felt the morning choice could have been much more PATRIOTIC. Red, Navy or Royal Blue would have been my choice!
